SSC MTS Preparation 2021: Best Strategy and Tips to Crack SSC MTS Tier 1, 2 Exam

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the official notification for Multi-tasking Staff (MTS) on its official website which is ssc.nic.in. As per the official notification, the SSC MTS Tier 1 exam is to be conducted from October 05, 2021 to October 20, 2021.

SSC MTS Exam Preparation Strategy Highlights

Before we go deep into the preparation strategy let’s take a look into the exam pattern and nature of the exam:

SSC MTS 2021 Tier 1 Exam Pattern

The Paper 1 of SSC MTS Exam is an objective type paper that comprises questions from 4 subjects which are Numerical Ability, General English, General Awareness and General Intelligence & Reasoning. Here are some important points of the Paper 1 exam:

  • Paper 1 will have 25 questions from each section with a weightage of 1 mark for each correct answer
  • Paper 1 of the SSC MTS Exam will comprise a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each incorrect answer
  • The questions of Paper 1 will be framed in both English and Hindi language
  • There will be a time limit of 90 minutes for regular candidates and 120 minutes for Visually Handicapped (VH)/ Cerebral Palsy (CP) candidates

SSC MTS 2021 Tier 2 Exam Pattern

The Paper 2/ Tier 2 of SSC MTS Exam is descriptive in nature which will be held for candidates who fulfill the cut off prescribed by the commission in Paper 1. There will be one question in Paper 2 which will be on either letter writing/ short essay writing. Candidates have to write an essay of 150 words or a letter of 75 to 110 words with a time duration of 30 minutes. The total weightage of Tier 2 is 50 marks.

  • The topics of Averages and Percentages along with Data interpretation, tend to remain simple. Candidates are suggested to try to attempt such simpler questions quickly after reading the instructions properly and then move to the relatively harder topic
  • Developing the use of short tricks in the topics of Algebra and other Miscellaneous topics would help many of you develop the much-needed Time Management skills and also help in quickly solving the problems
  • A total of 25 questions will be asked from this topic in the SSC MTS exam. The candidates should try to tackle this in a time limit of nearly 35 minutes.

  • Though this section remains Achilles’ heel for many a candidate, aspirants can work on their weaker aspects of this section and tackle this section successfully
  • Candidates’ understanding of the Basics of English Language, its vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, and its correct usage, etc. his/her writing ability would be tested
  • The simpler topics of reading comprehension are something that can be improved based on one’s continual practice. Also, it is important to focus on improving your vocabulary. While this does not mean that you should solely focus on rote learning new words/phrases, you can try to improve your skills by learning how to apply those newly learnt phrases
  • With 25 questions being asked from this section, candidates must apply themselves and try to complete it within a generous time limit of 5-7 minutes

  • The topic of space visualization along with number series can be easily tackled by many, as would be the relationship concepts
  • A few subtopics do require effort and time for solving them correctly and quickly in the SSC MTS examination. Candidates should strive right from the beginning to practice enough questions, so as to quickly recognize the patterns present in the problem
  • In case, a problem ends up taking too much of your precious time, it's better to switch and move to the next question and then come back to the problem if time permits
  • 25 questions will be posted from this section in the SSC MTS exam, which effectively candidates should try to tackle within 15 minutes

  • Questions will be designed to test the ability of the candidate’s general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of current events. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighboring countries especially pertaining to Sports, History, Culture, Geography, Economic scene, General Polity including Indian Constitution, and Scientific Research, etc. These questions will be such that they do not require a special study of any discipline
  • Since all the subtopics will be covered in this sub-section of the paper, the candidates are requested to focus on all the subtopics in order to ace this section
  • While it might seem that the section is really vast, candidates should cover the basic and popular knowledge of the subtopics. Start with the topics you are most comfortable with. Practice regularly to remember the even most obscure of the facts and then move to those fewer difficult subtopics

SSC MTS 2021 Tier 2/ Paper 2 Preparation Tips

Though there is enough time for Tier 2/ Paper 2 of SSC MTS, however, it is advised to prepare for Tier 2 together with Tier 1 only as candidates get a little time for preparing for Tier 2. Here are some essential tips for Tier 2 of the SSC MTS Exam:

  • Candidates should practice writing 2 to 3 essays regularly
  • Use the correct and standardized format of essay viz. first some lines on introduction, the main concept, positive aspects, negative aspects, and then the conclusion of the essay
  • Use an online platform while writing essays, this will help you building your typing speed
  • Use quotation wherever possible, it creates a good impact. Use a neutral tone all through the essay
  • Do not repeat the same points all over again
