What is BARC OCES?

BARC OCES stands for Bhabha Atomic Research Center Orientation Course for Engineering Graduates and Science Postgraduates. The training schools are where BARC runs the one-year orientation programme. After that, candidates will be admitted to any school based on their discipline and orientation program. Only the subjects of science and engineering are covered by the BARC OCES. Candidates might choose to be a Trainee Scientific Officer (TSO). Only those candidates with a minimum BARC OCES score of 50% will be recruited as scientific officers in any of the following BARC units after their training period of one year is completed.

DGFS stands for DAE Graduate Fellowship Scheme for Engineering Graduates and Physics Postgraduates, a two-year program in which only candidates who excelled in their interviews and are pursuing post-graduate studies at the chosen institution are chosen. Candidates are paid a stipend as well as their tuition fee under this scheme to pursue M.Tech/M.Chem.Engg in established institutions and courses. After one year of completing their classes, DGFS fellows are assigned project work by DAE, which is overseen by DAE and a guide from their institution.

The stipend under this scheme is ₹ 55,000/month and a one-time allowance of 18000. After completion of their post-graduation, candidates are posted as Scientific Officers or Gazette Officers of the Government of India. While under the training session, candidates will be offered a stipend of ₹ 55,000 and will reimburse their tuition fees.

BARC OCES Exam Selection Process

Candidates who wish to apply for the BARC OCES DGFS have to fill out the application form in which they have to select their choices of screening which will be done either based on an Online test conducted by BARC or the GATE score.

  • Online Test: This test will be conducted in nine different engineering disciplines and four science disciplines.
  • GATE score: A valid GATE scorecard is required from candidates from this year or the previous year.
  • Interview Process: Selected candidates will have to appear for the interview process. The final selection will be based on the candidate's performance in the interview process.

Note: For nuclear engineering, the only screening method is the online test. Candidates are advised to choose both screening modes to maximize their chances of selection for BARC OCES. Candidates who clear the screening process will have to appear for the interview.
