What is CLAT Full Form?

The CLAT Exam Full Form is Common Law Admission Test. It is a national-level Law Entrance Exam administered by NLUs Consortium. Candidates aiming at CLAT can get an opportunity to study various law programs at the top NLUs in India. CLAT is the most popular law exam among prospective management students. CLAT Result is also accepted by most of India’s prestigious law institutes, including Amity University, IFCAI Law School, Hyderabad, and many more.

History of CLAT

It is a national-level Law exam conducted by the Consortium in recent years. But, previously, it was conducted by NLUs on a rotational basis. To make the admission process of the CLAT organized and more transparent, 18 NLUs came together and set this CLAT Conducting on 19 August 2017. Later, some other universities joined CLAT Consortium, and now there are 23 NLUs. Here is a brief on the origin of the CLAT Exam.

  • The first NLU was founded in Bangalore in the year 1987.
  • After 10 years of the establishment of this NLU, the second Law University, namely NALSAR (National Academy of Legal Studies and Research) founded in Hyderabad. Go through CLAT Study Plan and be prepared accordingly.
  • At that time, NLUs or this CLAT Consortium were created in the pattern of IIMs and IITs.
  • In 2008, these NLUs signed MoU in front of the UGC members and MHRD Secretary to hold the CLAT entirely. Under this authorization, the first CLAT Exam was held offline with an MCQ-based question paper.
  • The seeds of the CLAT Consortium were grown in 2015, and participating NLUs discussed the formation of the Consortium in the wider interest.
  • Shamnad Bashir filed a PIL (CWP 600 of 2015) in which he highlighted the need for a permanent administration with a permanent committee to study the CLAT. Check CLAT Important Topics in detail.
  • Disha Panchal v Union of India filed another CWP 551 of 2018 in 2018. In this matter, the MHRD was directed to examine the behaviour of the Consortium of NLUs to ensure that it was conducted reasonably and fairly.
  • Finally, a permanent CLAT Secretariat was created in Bangalore on 17 October 2018. The exam is now conducted by the executive members of the Consortium of CLAT.

Presently, the Consortium has its headquarters in the NLSIU (Bangalore), which involves:

  • An Executive Committee
  • The CLAT Convenor of the present year (DNLU Jabalpur for CLAT 2020)
  • The CLAT Convenor of the following year
  • Two co-selected Vice-Chancellors of NLU

Eligibility of CLAT

The candidates who are appearing for the upcoming exam must know the eligibility criteria along with the CLAT Full Form. Note the below points to get an overview of the CLAT Eligibility.

  • The candidates must be citizens of India or NRI.
  • The candidates must score 45% marks (40% for the reserved category) in the Class 12 board exam to appear CLAT UG Exam. Tips to Prepare for CLAT without Coaching.
  • However, for CLAT PG Courses, you must score 50% marks (45% for the reserved category).
  • There are no specifications for the upper CLAT age limit

Paper Pattern of CLAT

The CLAT Entrance Exam duration is 120 minutes. That means the candidates must complete the question paper within this time limit. A total of 150 MCQs are asked in this exam from the below-mentioned 5 sections.

  • Quantitative Techniques.

As per the CLAT marking scheme, the candidates will get +1 for every correct response, and -0.25 marks will be deducted for every incorrect answer.
