SSC CGL Selection Process consists of various stages of the recruitment cycle. It was revised in 2022 when the commission introduced a two-tier selection process for the recruitment drive. SSC CGL Selection Process 2023

The latest SSC CGL selection process is divided into two stages i.e. Tier 1, and Tier 2. Based on the marks scored in Tier 1 i.e. Computer Based Examination, candidates will be shortlisted category-wise, to appear in the Tier 2 exam. This means candidates who will clear SSC CGL Tier 1 2023 will be eligible to appear for Tier 2 as well. As per  SSC CGL Exam Pattern, Tier 1 is an objective-type test that consists of multiple-choice questions on 4 different subjects, including General Awareness, General Intelligence and Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude or Mathematics, and English Comprehension. The Tier 1 question paper will consist of a total of 100 questions carrying 2 marks each. Hence, the exam will be for 200 marks and the duration will be 60 minutes.

In contrast, Tier 2 of the SSC CGL Selection Process will be conducted in 3 different phases called Paper 1, 2 and 3. SSC CGL Selection Process for Tier 1

Under the SSC CGL selection process, Tier 1 exam consists of four subjects, i.e. Quantitative Aptitude, English, Reasoning, and General Knowledge. It is a computer-based multiple-choice type examination with 100 questions (25 of each subject) with a time limit of 60 minutes. Each question is of 2 marks and carries a negative of 0.5 marks on marking the wrong answer. 

Tier 1 of the SSC CGL selection process 2023 is not merely a qualifying paper or in other words score of Tier 1 is added to making the qualifying list for the Tier 2 examination as well as in the preparation of the final merit list. SSC CGL Tier 2 Exam is the most vital and decision-making stage among all the stages of the SSC CGL Selection Process. According to the latest notification, Tier 2 will consist of 3 Papers.   • Candidates must note that appearing for Paper-1 of Tier 2 is mandatory for all candidates. 
  • However, only shortlisted candidates will have to appear for Paper 2 and 3.

SSC CGL Tie-Breaking Criteria

There are often instances where more than one candidate scores the same marks. In such a case, there is a tie-breaking method employed by SSC. This ensures that no stage of SSC selection process gets disrupted. Following are the methods of tie-breaking employed that are used to prepare the final merit list if candidates score the same marks in the Tier 2 exam.

  • Total marks in papers 2 & 3 of Tier 2 are considered for JSO and AAO posts.
  • Marks in section 1 of paper 1 of the Tier 2 exam are considered.
  • Date of Birth of candidates is considered with older candidates given the preference.
  • Alphabetical order of names.
