On January 23, 2023, the UGC NET application window was closed at 5:00 PM. The candidates were allowed to make payment for the application till 11.50 pm. The National Testing Agency previously released the UGC NET 2023 notification on its official website. From February 21 to March 10, 2023, the exam for the December 2022 cycle will be conducted. What is UGC NET?

The University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test, also known as the NTA UGC NET, was administered by the National Testing Agency. It is a national exam to select candidates for Assistant Professor or Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) positions in Indian universities and colleges. The UGC NET 2023 exam will cover 83 different subjects. It is the gateway for candidates who want to make their career in research work or want to impart education in universities and top colleges of India.

The UGC NET exam is conducted twice a year, in June and December. The exam was administered by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on behalf of the Union Grant Commission till June 2018. But starting in December 2018, the National Testing Agency (NTA) began administering the UGC NET exam.

UGC NET Reservation Policy

The reservation policy of the Government of India is applied to UGC NET exam. According to the reservation policy, in the Central Universities and Institutions that are deemed to be Universities, 10% of the seats are reserved for the category General-Economically Weaker Section (GEN-EWS), 15% of the seats are reserved for the category Scheduled Caste (SC), 7.5% for the category Scheduled Tribe (ST) and 27% for the category Other Backward Classes belonging to the Non Creamy layer”(OBC-NCL). Each category has 4% reservations horizontally for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) as defined in the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 (RPwD Act, 2016).

UGC NET Selection Process

The UGC NET 2023 selection process is one of the simplest processes of any exam.  As per the norms of the commission, only 6% of candidates will be shortlisted out of the total number of candidates that will be appeared in both papers. Candidates can check out the UGC NET selection process below.

  • For consideration for the positions of "JRF and Eligibility for Assistant Professor" and "Assistant Professor," a candidate must have taken both exams and obtained at least 40% overall for the General (Unreserved) category and at least 35% overall for all candidates from the reserved categories in both papers taken together.
