UPTET Eligibility Criteria are formulated by the Uttar Pradesh Examination Regulatory Authority. The eligibility criteria of UPTET is released to determine the suitability of candidates as primary and upper-primary teachers.

UPTET eligibility is the main prerequisite that candidates must meet to take the exam. Candidates not fulfilling the eligibility criteria cannot apply for the exam. UPTET eligibility criteria include age limit, educational qualification, age relaxation, reservation requirements, and other details. Candidates aspiring to take the exam must satisfy all these conditions

UPTET eligibility criteria are the basis through which the candidates get an equal opportunity to appear in the exam. Candidates who want to teach in schools of Uttar Pradesh at the primary or upper primary level must satisfy the UPTET eligibility criteria for Paper 1 and Paper 2 respectively.

UPTET Eligibility 2024

UPTET 2023 eligibility is prescribed by UPBEB in the official notification PDF. Candidates who wish to apply for the UPTET Exam need to fulfill all the conditions mentioned in the UPTET eligibility criteria else the concerned authority will reject their application. Thus, the candidates need to check the eligibility criteria before filling out the UPTET Application Form.

UPTET Eligibility Criteria: Educational Qualification

UPTET 2023 qualification is the minimum requirement for candidates applying for teaching jobs through the exam. The academic eligibility criteria vary depending on the post/paper the candidates have applied for.

The eligibility criteria for UPTET educational qualifications are listed separately for both Paper 1 and Paper 2. Candidates must possess the following educational qualifications to fill out the application form:

UPTET Eligibility for Primary Teachers (Class 1 to 5)

Here is the educational qualification required to appear for the UPTET Paper 1:

  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with minimum 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education. Or,
  • Senior Secondary with minimum 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 4 years Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed). Or,
  • Senior Secondary with minimum 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 2 years Diploma in Education (Special Education). Or,
  • Graduation and passed or appearing in the final year of 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education. Or,
  • Graduation + B.Ed final year appearing & passed aspirants can apply.

UPTET Eligibility for Secondary Teachers (Class 6 to 8)

Here is the educational qualification required to appear for the UPTET Paper 2:

  • Graduation and passed or appearing in the final year of 2 Years Diploma in Elementary Education. Or,
  • Graduation with a minimum of 50% marks and passing or appearing in 1 year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed). Or,
  • Graduation with at least 45% marks and passing or appearing in 1 year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) by the NCTE. Or,
  • Senior Secondary with minimum 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 4 years B.El.Ed. Or,
  • Senior Secondary with minimum 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 4 years B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed. Or,
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and passing or appearing in 1 year B.Ed.

UPTET Upper Primary Sanskrit and English Teacher Eligibility

  • Bachelor’s degree with Sanskrit/English as the main subject AND B.T.C./ C.T. (Nursery) from an NCTE-approved institute  Or,
  • Bachelor’s degree with Sanskrit/English as the main subject and minimum 50 percent marks AND B.Ed / B.Ed special degree from NCTE/RCI approved institute  Or,
  • Bachelor’s degree with Sanskrit/English as the main subject and minimum 45 percent marks AND B.Ed Degree

UPTET Upper Primary Urdu Teacher Eligibility

  • Bachelor’s or Post Graduate Degree with Urdu as the main subject from a recognized university 
  • B.T.C from NCTE-approved institute in Uttar Pradesh Or,
  • B.Ed/B. Ed Special Degree from NCTE/RCI approved institute Or,
  • BCT (2 years) in Urdu training in Uttar Pradesh Or,
  • Moallim-E-Urdu Degree holder before 11-08-1997 Or,
  • Diploma in Teaching from Aligarh Muslim University

UPTET Age Limit

UPTET age limit prescribes minimum and maximum age of candidates to take the exam. The minimum age limit to apply for the exam is 18 years however there is no upper age limit. It is critical to meet the age limit criteria in order to be eligible to take the exam.

Candidates not falling in the range of minimum and maximum age limit cannot fill the application form. UPTET age limit 2023 will be prescribed in the official notification by the concerned authorities. 

UPTET Number of Attempts

There is no restriction on the number of attempts to take the UPTET exam. A candidate can appear in the exam as many as he/she wants if they are meeting the UPTET eligibility criteria. They must possess all the required documents and certificates which are necessary to apply for the exam.

UPTET 2024 Nationality

Nationality is an important factor under UPTET eligibility criteria. Before applying for the exam, candidates must ensure that they fulfill the prescribed conditions for nationality. The exam is open to any Indian citizen who fulfills the UPTET eligibility criteria. Apart from Indian citizens, candidates from Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet can also apply for the exam.

UPTET 2024 Eligibility Certificate

Eligibility Certificate will be issued to such candidates who qualify the test by obtaining minimum qualifying marks. The details related to the criteria for obtaining the UPTET eligibility certificate are as follows.

  • Candidates should score a minimum of 60% (90/150 marks) of the total marks.
  • Reserved category candidates require only 55% marks (83/150 marks) to pass the exam.
  • The certificate is valid for a lifetime.
  • The eligibility certificate can be obtained from the district education board by submitting a copy of the UPTET Admit Card and a photo identity card.
