SSC CHSL Syllabus

SSC CHSL Syllabus and Exam Pattern 2021: SSC CHSL Exam 2020-21 for Tier 1 is scheduled to be conducted from 12th May 2021 to 27th May 2021. Hence, SSC CHSL Syllabus is of utmost importance for those who will be appearing for the SSC CHSL Exam 2021.

SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2021

SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2021 is already mentioned in the respective notification as released by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC). There are 3 tiers in the SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2021. Each Tier is a different type of exam and has specific qualifying standards. Only after qualifying all the 3 tiers, you will finally get selected for the post applied for. In the SSC CHSL New Exam Pattern, you learn about the following information:

  • Weightage of marks
  • Duration to write the papers
  • Medium of language
  • Mode of examination
  • Types of questions

SSC CHSL Syllabus comprises of the following three tiers. You have to qualify for each of the stages in order to be eligible for selection. SSC CHSL Tier 1 comprises Multiple choice questions, whereas Tier 2 is a descriptive paper that can be attempted in English or Hindi at your convenience. Tier III is the last stage and is a Skill Test/Computer Proficiency Test.

SSC CHSL Tier 1 Exam Pattern

The SSC CHSL Tier 1 Exam Pattern is described in a tabular form as under;-

You will have to give the Tier I examination only in online mode. There will be four sections in the paper of 50 marks each. The whole paper will contain only objective type MCQ questions. The sections are as follows;-

  • Part 1: General Intelligence
  • Part 2: English Language
  • Part 3: Quantitative Aptitude
  • Part 4: General Awareness and General Knowledge

The duration for writing the paper is 60 minutes. You can opt for any language out of Hindi or English.

SSC CHSL Tier 2 Exam Pattern

The SSC CHSL Tier 2 Exam Pattern is explained below.

  • This descriptive exam will be conducted in an offline mode based on pen and paper.
  • To qualify this test, you have to get 33 marks.
  • You have to complete the paper of 100 marks within a time-frame of 60 minutes.
  • You are required to write applications, essays or letters on any topic given in the paper. This exam mainly tests your knowledge, capability and grasp over the English language.

During the preparation, you should practice more of Sectional Tests to make your foundation a stronger one. After qualifying for both SSC CHSL Tier 1 and Tier 2 examinations, you will be selected for the Tier 3 examination. 

SSC CHSL Tier 3 Exam Pattern

All the shortlisted candidates will be called to appear for the SSC CHSL Skill Test. SSC CHSL is for the post of DEO, LDC/ JSA, and Postal Assistant/ Sorting Assistant. The skill test for SSC CHSL 2021 comprises of typing test and is applicable for all the posts of SSC CHSL as mentioned here.

  • The SSC CHSL Skill Test is qualifying in nature.
  • The medium of Typing Test will be Hindi or English as per the choice made by you in the SSC CHSL Online Application form 2021.
  • The duration of the typing test is 15 minutes.
  • The speed of the typing test will be adjudged on the basis of accuracy in the typing test.

SSC CHSL Syllabus 2021 for Skill Test/Typing Test

Skill Test (DEST) Pattern for SSC CHSL 2021 Exam

For DEO Post

  • It is of Qualifying nature.
  • Candidates should possess a Data Entry Speed of 8,000 key depressions per hour on the computer.
  • They will be given printed matter in English which they have to type on the computer.
  • The test is for 15 minutes and candidates should have a minimum speed of 2000-2200 strokes/key-depressions in order to qualify. 

For DEO Post in C&AG 

  • Candidates should possess a Data Entry Speed of 15,000 key depressions per hour on the computer.
  • You will be given printed matter in English which they have to type on the computer.
  • The test is for 15 minutes and candidates should have a minimum speed of 3700-4000 strokes/key-depressions in order to qualify. 

Typing Test Pattern for LDC/JSA & PA/SA

  • Typing Test will be conducted only in English or Hindi and candidates while applying for the Examination will have to indicate his/her choice/option for Typing Test Medium in the Application Form.
  • Candidates opting for English medium should have a typing speed of 35 words per minute and those opting for Hindi medium should have a typing speed of 30 words per minute corresponds to 10500 key depressions per hour and 30 wpm corresponds to 9000 key depressions per hour respectively.
  • The speed will be adjudged on the accuracy of typing on the computer of a given text passage in 10 minutes.

  • Typing test requires you to type 35 words per minute in English and 30 words per minute in Hindi. This test is to examine the typing skills and speed of the candidate.

  • The extension of 35 minutes, including 20 minutes of compensatory time, is allowed for the candidates suffering from any deformity in hand. (VH or OH).

  • There is no marks deduction for not attempting any question.

  • For each wrongly answered question only, you will lose 0.25 marks.

  • You will be finally selected based on the marks achieved in Tier 1 and Tier 2 papers. Skill Test marks will not be included over here. However, it is mandatory to qualify the skill test for final selection.

  • Yes, the SSC CHSL Skill test or typing test is qualifying in nature.
