UPSC Vacancies

The UPSC CSE vacancy 2023 has been released along with the release of the recruitment notification. Total IAS Vacancy 2023 of 1105 also includes vacancies for Persons with Benchmark Disability Category. The number of vacancies to be filled is 1105 and is based on the result of the examination, including the bifurcation of allotment as follows:

  • few vacancies reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disability Category i.e.
  • few vacancies for blindness and low vision
  • few vacancies for the deaf and hard of hearing
  • few vacancies for locomotor disability, including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy, etc
  • few vacancies for multiple disabilities

UPSC Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to apply for the UPSC CSE 2023, make sure you fulfill the following UPSC eligibility criteria as described below:

1. Nationality:

(a) A candidate must be a citizen of India to become the Indian Administrative Service, the Indian Foreign Service, and the Indian Police Service, a candidate.

(b) And for other services, a candidate must either be:

  • a citizen of India or
  • a subject of Nepal, or
  • a subject of Bhutan, or
  • a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  • a person of Indian origin (PIO) who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India

Note: For the PIOs, a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India is a mandatory requisite.

Age Limit

The minimum age is 21 years, and the maximum age is 32 years as of the 1st of August 2023. However, age relaxation is applicable for candidates from SC/ST OBC backgrounds.

Educational Qualification:

The candidate must possess a degree from the recognized University or educational institution established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University Under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification.

Important Points to Remember While Filling UPSC Application Form

  • The UPSC CSE Preliminary Examination 2023 seeks applications for the Civil Services and the Indian Forest Service Examinations.
  • Please remember that the eligibility criteria and other selection norms apply to the same. Also, be vigilant that there will be a ceiling on the number of candidates allotted to each of the centers.
  • The allotment of the centers will be on a ‘first-apply-first-allot’ basis. It is advisable that, apply early so that the ‘Centre of choice’ could be allotted!
  • Candidates need to submit their application form carefully as changes are not allowed after submission of the form.

UPSC Exam Pattern

The Civil Services Examination (CSE) is carried out in successive stages: Prelims, Mains & Interview

UPSC Preliminary Examination

This examination is Objective type and is conducted for the selection of candidates for the Main Examination. The marks obtained in UPSC Prelims examination are not counted for the final merit list.

UPSC Main Examination

UPSC Mains is a rigorous activity involving not only mental alertness but also representation both on paper and in conduct. The marks obtained in this examination are counted for the final merit. The rank obtained in the merit list is decisive for the allotment of various Services and posts noted above. UPSC Interview

UPSC interview is the last stage of the Civil Service Exam, and it carries a total of 275 marks.  Here the personality of the candidate gets tested by the interviewers. The final UPSC Result is declared on the basis of marks scored in UPSC Mains and Interview.

UPSC Selection Process

To qualify and become a Civil Servant through UPSC, you need to appear and crack all three stages as mentioned below:

  • Preliminary Examination: Qualifying in nature
  • Main Examination: The marks obtained in this phase are considered for the final selection. These marks decide the rank and hence, the posts allotted to a candidate.
  • Interview: The purpose of the interview is to assess the true and authentic self of an individual. It is to check whether the candidate is suitable for a career in civil services and serves society with zeal. Overall, it is not a knowledge test but a personality test. The interview panel just observes how a candidate responds to a given question. The approach is important.
  • Number of Attempts: The Union Public Service Commission allows the number of attempts as per the category so he/she belongs:

UPSC Admit Card

UPSC releases the e-admit card a few weeks before the exam date. Candidates need to download the admit card from the official website of UPSC and keep it safe. Candidates won’t be allowed to the exam hall without the admit card. Apart from the UPSC Admit Card, candidates need to carry ID proof like an Aadhar card, Pan Card, or Driving license to the exam hall. The UPSC Admit Card has information like name, roll number, and location of the exam center The Entrance to the IAS exam will be closed 10 minutes before the exam’s start time, and after that, no candidate will be allowed.
