WBSET 2023: The cut off for the previous cycle was released shortly after the results were declared by the West Bengal College Service Commission on 27 February 2023. The exam was conducted on 8 January 2023, for all 33 subjects at various exam centers around the state of West Bengal. WBSET is a state-level eligibility examination conducted by the West Bengal College Service Commission (WBCSC). The exam is conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for the post of Assistant Professor in the colleges and universities of West Bengal. Candidates who qualify for the WB SET exam are awarded an eligibility certificate, which makes them eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor. The validity of the eligibility certificate is for three years from the date of issue.

WB SET exam was concluded successfully on January 08, 2023, in 33 districts across West Bengal. The cut off for the same was released on 28 February 2023 on the official website by WBCSC. The result was released for the 24th session on 27 February 2023 in a PDF format which includes the roll numbers of the qualified applicants. The West Bengal Public Service Commission previously released the answer key on 20 January 2023 on the official website.

The WBSET consists of two papers, namely Paper 1, and Paper 2, which are conducted on the same day. Paper 1 consists of 50 objective-type questions, and Paper 2 consists of 100 objective-type questions based on the subject selected by the candidate. To be eligible for the exam, candidates must have a Master's degree or equivalent degree from a recognized university with a minimum of 55% marks (50% for reserved category candidates). What is WB SET Exam?

WBSET or West Bengal State Eligibility Test is conducted by West Bengal College Service Commission (WBCSC) every year to recruit deserving candidates as Assistant Professors in various colleges and universities of West Bengal. WBCSC will administer Paper 1 and Paper 2 of the West Bengal State Eligibility Test. Paper 1 is common for all students, while Paper 2 is subject-specific and is conducted for 33 different subjects.

Applicants must score equal to or more than the minimum qualifying marks to proceed to the next round. Before that, they must ensure that they fulfill the eligibility criteria of the WB SET exam. This is a highly prestigious exam that observes stiff competition every year.

WB SET Qualification

  • Candidates should have obtained a master’s degree from UGC-accredited universities/institutions with at least 55% marks.
  • Candidates who belong to OBC/EWS/SC/ST/PWD/Transgender category will be considered qualified if they have secured at least 50% marks in a Master's degree or equivalent exam.
  • Final-year master’s students are also eligible to apply for the exam.
  • If you are a Ph.D. holder and your Master's was completed by 19th September 1991 (irrespective of the date of declaration of result), then you shall be granted 5% relaxation in aggregate marks.
  • Candidates can apply for WBSET 2023 only for the subject in which they have done their Master's degree.
  • Candidates who have passed the UGC/CSIR JRF exam before 1989 are not allowed to appear for the exam.

WB SET Age limit

There is no upper age limit for West Bengal State Eligibility Test. Candidates of any age can apply to appear in this exam without any issue. Hence, no relaxation will be needed for reserved category candidates.

WB SET Nationality

Candidates must be citizens of India to satisfy the nationality requirement.

WBSET Exam Pattern

The WBSET 2023 Exam Pattern is made up of Paper 1 and Paper 2. Following the WB SET exam pattern, multiple-choice questions are included in both papers. Candidates have a single three-hour window in which to finish both exams. Each correct response receives +2 marks, while wrong responses do not receive any deducted points. The exam pattern for Papers 1 and 2 is provided below for candidates to review.

  • All the questions in the exam papers are objective.
  • Paper 1 includes topics like teaching ability, research aptitude, data interpretation, and reasoning, among many others.
  • Similarly, Paper 2 includes the subject that candidates choose while completing their application.
  • Paper 1 has 50 questions and carries 100 marks, whereas Paper 2 carries 100 questions and carries 200 marks. Three hours are allotted for the exam. Correct answers will give +2 marks, and there will be no negative marking.
  • There is no negative marking on both papers.
  • Paper 1 assesses the reasoning skills, comprehension, divergent thinking, and general awareness of all candidates.
  • The questions in Paper 2 will be about the subject you choose for your Master's. This Paper consists of 33 different subjects.
  • Questions asked in both papers will be objective.
  • The mode of the exam will be offline OMR based.
