DBT JRF 2023: The result has been declared for GAT B/DBT JRF on 9 June 2023. The exam was conducted on 13 May 2023 after the exam date for DBT JRF was postponed by the Department of Biotechnology for the Graduate Aptitude Test (GAT-B)/ Biotechnology Eligibility Test (BET).

The DBT JRF exam is conducted for candidates who have completed their Post Graduation in Biotechnology and want to take a fellowship to pursue research in Biotechnology areas. NTA conducts the BET and GAT-B exams for all interested candidates who fill out the application for DBT JRF. DBT JRF 2023

DBT JRF 2023 Exam date has been postponed to 13 May 2023. The exam conducting authorities released a notice on 18 April to announce that the exam will now be held on 13 May 2023. The admit card was released for the exam on 10 May by the authorities and candidates just need to visit the official website to download it ahead of the exam. Moreover, the city intimation notice has been released for the upcoming exam on 8 May.

The Biotechnology Eligibility Test (BET) or Graduate Aptitude Test - Biotechnology (GAT-B) is a national-level eligibility test to select candidates for Junior Research Fellowship. Biotechnology aspirants interested in a doctoral degree after completing the M.Sc. or M.Tech or M.V.Sc can apply for the exam. Biotech Consortium India Limited (BCIL) coordinates the exam for both categories.

DBT JRF has two parts, i.e., aptitude and general biotechnology, which is typical for all the candidates, and part two has questions from the standard and specialized branches of biotechnology. What is DBT JRF?

DBT JRF stands for Department of Biotechnology Junior Research Fellowship. The exam is conducted by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India to grant fellowships to candidates who want to pursue a Ph.D. in biotechnology. The Biotechnology Eligibility Test offers admission through categories which are given below:

  • Category I fellowship (Top 275 in number): This category is for the registration for P.hD degree in any University/Institute in India.
  • Category II (100 in number): The aspirants are eligible to join DBT-sponsored projects and avail of fellowship.

DBT JRF Eligibility

To be eligible for the DBT JRF exam, candidates must fulfill the following eligibility criteria set by the exam conducting authority. DBT JRF Age Limit

Candidates interested in the BET exam must not be older than 28 years as of the last date of application. The age relaxation of 5 years is applicable for SC/ST/ Differently abled/ Women candidates and OBC (Non-creamy layer) candidates. The ease is three years.

DBT JRF Qualification

Interested candidates must check their education qualifications for DBT JRF before filling out the application form. The educational qualification is a prerequisite for the application form. If the candidate doesn’t satisfy the criteria, his/her candidature will be rejected.

  • Candidates must have done BE/B.Tech in biotechnology. OR
  • M.Sc/ M.Tech. M.V.Sc. Degree in Biotechnology/ specialization such as Agriculture, Animal/ Veterinary, Pharmaceutical, Food, Medical, Marine, Industrial, Environmental, Bioscience and Biotechnology, Bio-resources Biotechnology, Biochemistry Engineering, and Bioinformatics”. OR
  • M.Sc in Neuroscience and Molecular & Human Genetics.
  • General & OBC Aspirants must have a minimum of 60% marks, and for SC/ST/ PH candidates, the minimum marks are 55%.

In addition to the above-mentioned conditions, candidates must also be citizens of India to be eligible for DBT JRF and must be able to produce valid identity proof for the same.

DBT JRF Exam Pattern

DBT JRF is divided into two Parts. Part A has 50 questions with 150 marks. The second section has 150 questions, and the aspirant has to try only 50 questions. The time duration of the exam is 3 hours (180 minutes). Check the detailed Exam Pattern for DBT JRF in the table below.

DBT JRF Fellowship

The salary of DBT JRF has two components, i.e., the basic pay and the HRA. The in-hand salary for a DBT JRF is ₹ 31,000 plus the HRA. The HRA varies depending on the city candidate’s institute is located. Candidates will get HRA of 8%, 16%, and 24% for X, Y, and Z cities, respectively.

The National Testing Agency publishes the Biotechnology Eligibility Test (BET) results as a merit list and candidate scorecard. Those who pass the BET 2023 in Category I can apply for a fellowship at any university or institute where they plan to pursue a Ph.D. Category II candidates, on the other hand, are eligible for DBT-sponsored projects and can follow a Ph.D. subject to institutional requirements.
