Creating of National Recruitment Agency (NRA)
Earlier on September 19, 2020, the Union Cabinet had ratified the creation of a National Recruitment Agency (NRA) which will be responsible to conduct a Common Eligibility Test (CET) for the selection of candidates for various jobs including both Central Government and some state governments.
Announcement of NRA CET 2022
Now, on July 06, 2021, the Union Minister of Central Government Dr Jitendra Singh announced that the Common Eligibility Test (CET) will be held across the country from early 2022 (probably January to February). The Minister further announced that the exam was earlier scheduled to be conducted prior to the end of this year (2021), however, it is now delayed due to the rise of the spread of COVID in the states in the month of April.
The below snippet highlights the latest notification for NRA CET 2022:
NRA CET 2022 will replace preliminary tests for at least 50 different examinations which are held for recruiting around 1.25 lakh government jobs every year. To fulfil these government jobs vacancies various boards (SSC, IBPS, RRB, Other State boards) conduct these examinations. This was a tedious and time taking process in which the aspirants have to suffer a lot in both time and money. This major step will help job seekers to take one common test and save time spent on writing various exams as well as save their expenses in filling the exam form and going to the exam centre.
Now, the question comes ‘How will different agencies recruit through NRA CET 2022’, to get an answer to this question, you will have read the entire article.

NRA CET Selection Process 2022
NRA would conduct preliminary examination viz. CET for three recruitment agencies which include IBPS, SSC, and RRB, but would later expand to 20 other recruiting agencies. To understand how the recruitment process will work, let’s first understand how the recruitment process worked earlier:
Earlier, candidates who were preparing for respective examinations (IBPS, RRB, and SSC) had to appear for their relevant screening exams such as Tier 1 for SSC CGL/ CPO/ CHSL/ Stenographer and Stage 1 for RRB NTPC/ Group D exams, while Prelims was conducted for IBPS PO/ Clerk.
Preliminary (Tier 1/ Prelims) was essentially a mass elimination round and took the maximum time for both board and candidates. Here is a detailed description of the recruitment process of the three boards which was followed earlier:
To simplify the process for both aspirants and boards, NRA will now be conducting the CET exam. CET exam will eliminate the need to appear for separate preliminary rounds and the aspirants only need to appear for CET once. The scores of CET will then be valid for the respective Mains examination including Tier 2 for SSC and RRB board and Mains for IBPS board. The below graph illustrates the recruitment process after the implementation of CET.
This step will increase the overall efficiency of the recruitment process as now different conducting bodies will be able to filter the suitable aspirants from the mass based on CET cut off score set by the authority. This is a win-win situation for aspirants also as if the candidate is not satisfied with his/ her current score then he/ she can appear for the CET exam twice a year. Also, the CET 2022 score is valid for 3 years which will help the aspirants to focus on the Mains of their respective exams.
