The differences between plants and animals are many such as plants are immobile but animals are mobile. Also, animals hunt for their food whereas plants make their own food through photosynthesis. Animals also have defined lifespans whereas plants can live up to any age and they never stop growing. Apart from this, there are also various other factors that differentiate plants from animals.
Table of content
Plants
Plants are an essential part of our ecosystem as they are the primary producers. They are living organisms that have stems, roots, and leaves. They are immobile and fall under the category of multicellular, photosynthetic eukaryotes organisms. Plants are known as autotrophs due to their ability to make their own food.
Animals
Animals are defined as living organisms that have organs and nervous systems. They fall under the multicellular, eukaryotes category. Animals cannot make their own food and are dependent on plants and other animals for their nutrition needs.
Differences between Plants and Animals
The difference between plants and animals is tabulated below.
Plants | Animals |
They belong to the kingdom of Plantae. | They belong to the kingdom of Animalia. |
Plants are immobile as they have roots in the soil. | Animals are mobile and are able to move from one place to another. |
Plants do not have a digestive system. | Animals have a digestive system. |
Plants prepare their food with the help of water, CO2, and sunlight in a process called photosynthesis. | Animals do not prepare their own food. They search for their food and a lot of them move to hunt their food. |
Plants do not have a defined life span or specific ages to which they can live. | Most animals have a defined life span in which they can only live up to a certain age. |
They store food in the form of starch. | Animals store food as glucose. |
Plants respire with the help of their stomata in their leaves. | Animals respire through respiratory organs like lungs, gills, etc. |
Plants reproduce by budding or vegetative methods. | Animals reproduce by giving birth to young ones or laying eggs. |
Plants turn carbon dioxide into oxygen. | Animals turn in oxygen into carbon dioxide. |
Summary:
What are the differences between plants and animals?
There are many differences between plants and animals. For instance, plants make their own food but animals cannot. Other differences include plants cannot move but animals can. The reproduction and respiration methods of both plants and animals are also very different. They also perform different functions in our environment.
