SSC CHSL Tier 1 Exam Pattern

SSC CHSL Tier 1 exam pattern consists of 100 questions, 25 questions from each of the following four subjects/sections - English, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and General Intelligence and Reasoning. It is to assess your basic knowledge in the above subjects. Candidates will get a maximum time of 60 minutes to complete the paper and 80 minutes for PwD candidates. There is a negative marking of 0.50 marks for each incorrect answer and 2 marks will be awarded for each correct answer.

SSC CHSL Tier 2 Exam Pattern

SSC CHSL Tier 2 exam is a descriptive paper conducted in pen and paper mode. Through this exam, candidates’ writing skills and understanding of the English/Hindi language are tested. As per the SSC CHSL exam pattern of Tier 2, this test comprises two sections - Essay writing and Letter/Application writing. Candidates will be asked to write an essay on the given topic in 200-250 words and a letter in 150-200 words. Both sections carry the weightage of 100 marks and candidates need to score at least 33% to clear the exam. 60 minutes will be allotted to complete the SSC CHSL Tier 2 exam.

Candidates must note that this section does not include any negative marking.

SSC CHSL Exam Pattern Tier 3

As per the SSC CHSL exam pattern, Tier 3 is a skill test or computer proficiency test. This stage is of qualifying in nature. If you successfully clear this stage, the final result of SSC CHSL will be based on the combined scores of Tier 1 and Tier 2. 

The SSC CHSL Tier 3 exam is a typing test for which a candidate must have a speed of 35 words per minute (English) and 30 words per minute (Hindi). 15 minutes will be allotted for this paper.

SSC CHSL Marking Scheme

The SSC CHSL marking scheme as per the latest SSC CHSL exam pattern will provide you 2 marks for each correct answer and deduct 0.50 marks for each wrong answer. The maximum marks of the Tier 1 exam are 200. There are a total of 4 subjects/sections in the CHSL Tier 1 exam, and each section will contain 25 questions in total. So, each section will be of 50 marks. The SSC CHSL marking scheme of Tier 2 paper consists of a maximum of 100 marks out of 33% is mandatory to qualify for the test.

  • SSC CHSL exam pattern 2022 consists of three Tiers or stages - Tier 1, 2, and 3. Tier 1 is an objective MCQs based test conducted through online mode, Tier 2 is a descriptive pen and paper test. And Tier 3 is a skill test for some selected posts of SSC CHSL. Candidates need to clear each Tier to move to the next stage of the exam.

There are two sections in the SSC CHSL pattern 2022 for Tier 2 - Essay and Letter/Application writing. The paper will be of 100 marks in total and there is no negative marking in Tier 2 exam.

  • There are a total of four subjects in the SSC CHSL exam pattern of Tier 1.   • The complete exam pattern of SSC CHSL and SSC CGL is entirely different. While there are three stages in SSC CHSL, SSC CGL has four stages. The Combined Graduate Level exam has two CBT (Computer Based Test) followed by a descriptive test and a skill test, while the SSC CHSL exam pattern has only 1 CBT followed by descriptive paper and skill test.
