Planets in the order of their increasing distances from the Sun are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. There are 8 planets in our solar system and they all revolve around the sun. As the center of the solar system, the sun has the strongest gravitational pull which keeps all the planets revolving around it. However, not all planets are situated at an equal distance from the sun. All planets are at a different distance from the sun, with the closest being Mercury and the farthest being Neptune.

The planets of the solar system in order of increasing distance from the sun are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. The planets closest to the sun are also known as terrestrial planets whereas the farthest planets are known as outer planets or gas giants. The distance from the sun impacts greatly the temperature of each planet.
Mercury is the closest planet to the sun whereas Neptune is the farthest. When Pluto was also considered a planet, it used to be the farthest planet from the sun with a distance of 5.9 billion kilometers. The planets in order of their distance from the sun are listed below.

- Venus – 108 million kilometers (67 million miles)
- Earth – 149.60 million kilometers (92.96 million miles)
- Mars – 228 million kilometers (142 million miles)
- Jupiter – 778 million kilometers (484 million miles)
- Saturn – 1.4 billion kilometers (886 million miles)
- Uranus – 2.9 billion kilometers (1.8 billion miles)
- Neptune – 4.5 billion kilometers (2.8 billion miles)
Planet Closest to the Sun
Mercury is the closest planet to the sun located at a distance of only 58 million kilometers. It is one of the hottest planets with temperatures that can reach up to 400K. Mercury is known to have an inhabitable environment due to its thin atmosphere. It also does not have any moons of its own. It takes Mercury 88 days to complete one revolution of the sun.
Planet Farthest from the Sun
The farthest planet from the sun is Neptune. It is located 4.5 billion kilometers away from the sun. Neptune takes approximately 165 years to complete one revolution around the sun. It is one of the outer planets and is filled with gases such as helium, hydrogen, and methane. Most of the mass of this planet is known to be made up of ice-like material with a core that is very rocky.
