Points to Consider from the above table:

  • The exam pattern and the syllabus of RRB NTPC CBT 1 and CBT 2 are the same.
  • The time duration of CBT 1 and CBT 2 is the same but the number of questions in CBT 2 is more. This suggests that one must work on the speed of solving the question paper.
  • The syllabus and the topics under all the three sections for CBT 1 and CBT 2 are the same. The main difference lies in the difficulty level of the questions. This indicates that candidates should keep revising the notes of CBT-1 and pay extra attention to the details and try to study the topics in more depth.
  • The range of Cut-off marks for NTPC CBT-1 is 75-80 which is almost 75-80% of the total marks, and the range of cut-off marks for NTPC CBT 2 is 70-85 which is approximately  58 - 70% of the total. What to do in the next 2 - 3 months?

After learning about the detailed difference between CBT-1 and CBT-2 and the topic-wise distribution of the questions, let us learn how can we use these insights in our favor and score high in the upcoming RRB NTPC CBT-2. In the upcoming 2 - 3 months, the preparation plan should be based on the following three pillars that would make all the difference.

  • Speed and Accuracy
  • General Awareness
  • Revision and practice

Speed and Accuracy

To solve 120 questions in 90 minutes, one must have a good speed. Also with good speed, candidates should have accuracy too as there is a negative marking of 1/3 Marks. In an exam like RRB NTPC where competition is so fierce, the last thing anyone wants to do is losing the marks because of negative marking. Here are a few tips that can be practised by aspirants in these 2 - 3 months for improving their speed and accuracy.

  • Candidates should always make notes of some quick tricks and methods for sections like quantitative aptitude and logical reasoning, which can be a little calculative and time-consuming. For instance Learning tables, squares, and cubes of numbers would save a lot of time.
  • Recognize your strong and weak points. Aspirants should work on the topics that are difficult for them but at the same time do not take the strong areas fr granted. Give a considerable amount of time for practising the topics that are easier for students.
  • While solving the mock tests learn to manage the time effectively. Always set aside 5 to 10 minutes to look over the questions again to see if any have gone unanswered. Take two to three minutes to read the question paper before starting to solve it. Spend no more than 30 to 40 seconds on any question, especially those in the quantitative or reasoning areas.

General Awareness

In both NTPC CBT 1 and CBT 2, the General Awareness section carries the highest number of questions and marks. In CBT-1, there are 40 questions under this section and in CBT 2, there are 50 questions. There is no denying fact that the General Awareness section is the most uncertain and the unexpected. No one can be sure about solving all the questions of this section. However, certain areas can definitely be prepared and one can ensure a decent number of marks in this section.

Following are the list of important topics that can be prepared from the General Awareness section for RRB NTPC 2020-21 CBT 2

  • Analyze the mock test result. Identify the section in which you are marking the incorrect answers and try to lower the incorrect choices.
  • Regularly solve the previous year's papers as the questions are mostly repeated ones. This will also help the candidates to get know the pattern of the questions and the level of the difficulty.
  • As mentioned earlier, the syllabus and the pattern of CBT 1 and CBT 2 is the same. So, keep revising your notes, basic formulae etc.
  • Do not forget to practice the questions asked in the RRB NTPC CBT 1. There might get repeated in CBT 2.
