(i) Increase 180 by 25%

New value = 180 + 180 x 25/100

= 180 + 45

On simplifying we get

= 225

Percentage

A value or ratio that can be expressed as a fraction of 100 in Maths is known as a percentage. When determining a percentage of a number, we should first divide it by 100 before multiplying the result by 100. As a result, the proportion refers to a component per 100.

### Formula of Percentage

We must divide the value by the entire value to find the percentage, and then multiply the resulting number by 100.

Percentage formula = (Value/Total value) × 100

How to find the percentage of a number?

We must apply a different formula, like the one shown below, to determine the percentage of a number.

P% of Number = X

where X = required percentage.

If the % symbol is removed, the formulas above must be expressed as;

P/100 x Number = X

Percentage increase and decrease

The original number is subtracted from the new number, divided by the original number, then multiplied by 100 to get the % increase.

% increase = [(New number – Original number)/Original number] x 100

where,

increase in number = New number – original number

Summary:-
