The start of the New Year is in January. The Roman god of beginnings, Janus, inspired the name of the month of January. This month marks the opening of the new year, which brings with it new opportunities and the capacity to view both the past and the future. Every month has significant holidays and occasions. Therefore, to aid in the preparation of numerous competitive examinations, such as SSC CGL, RRB, etc., we have produced a list of days & dates in January 2023. Check out the list of Important days in January 2023.

1st January

• Celebrated as Global family day
• Global family day is celebrated across the world with people to promote peace and sharing
• Over the years, the time one spends with one’s family has significantly reduced, this day is a reminder for them to value family

4th January

• This day is celebrated by United Nations to raise awareness among the people for Braille as an important means of communication for blind people
• It is also the day when Louis Braille, the braille inventor, was born.

6^th January

• It is observed as world war orphan day by the French organization
• This day is observed to create sensitivity among all towards the plight of orphans during world war.

9^th January

• It is celebrated as Pravasi Bharatiya Divas and recognizes the contribution made by the Indian community overseas.
• This day is also celebrated as Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti. 

10^th January

• It is celebrated as World Hindi Day. It was started by the Government of India to promote the Hindi language at the global level.
• The first World Hindi Conference was chaired by PM Indira Gandhi in the year 1975.

11^th January

• Death Anniversary of Lal Bhadur Shastri. He was the second Prime Minister of Independent India. He popularised the slogan ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan’.
• National Human Trafficking Awareness Day

12^th January

• It is marked as the National youth day to celebrate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
• This day is observed in remembrance of Swami Vivekananda and his philosophies.

14^th January 

• This day is celebrated as Makar Sankranti & Pongal. 
• It is celebrated as a harvest festival by Sikhs and some Hindus.
• It also marks the winter solstice.

• It is celebrated as Indian Army day to recognize the work of Field Marshal Kolandera M. Cariappa.
• It is also celebrated as Makar Sakranti and prayers are offered in the name of the Sun God.

23^rd January 

• It is observed as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Birth Anniversary. It was initiated by the government of India to remember and pay respect to his defiant patriotism.

24^th January

• National Girl Child Day– It is initiated by the Ministry of Women and child development to raise awareness among the people around the rights of girls.
• This day is also celebrated as International Day of Education.

25^th January

• It is observed as National Voters Day and National Tourism Day.
• National voters day is celebrated to raise awareness among the people around the power of voting and encourage them to contribute to the political process

26^th January 

• It is observed as Republic day. This is the day when the constitution of India came into effect.
• This day is also celebrated as  International Customs Day. 

28^th January 

• It is celebrated worldwide as Data protection day to raise awareness among the people regarding data privacy and its protection practices.
• This day is also celebrated as the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai.

30^th January 

• It is seen as National Martyr’s Day to pay honour and respect to those soldiers who laid their life for the nation.
• It is also celebrated worldwide as World Leprosy Eradication day to raise awareness around Leprosy also known as Hansen’s Disease.
