The elasticity of a material increases when it gets hammered. Elastic behaviour of solids: Elasticity is the ability of solid materials to regain their initial size and shape after being subjected to deforming forces. Intermolecular forces hold the molecules that makeup solids together.

  • The molecules are moved, and the solid deforms as a result of an external force.
  • The intermolecular forces pull the molecules back to their starting positions after the force stops acting. Materials get their original shape and size in this way.
  • Stress is produced by the forces on the materials. Continuous stress that exceeds a material’s elastic limit causes the material to begin deforming.

A substance fractures into smaller pieces when it is hammered. Together, the tiny pieces can withstand distortion. This strengthens the material’s internal binding and boosts its resistance to deforming pressures. As a result, hammering enhances the elasticity.
