List of Cyclones in India and the World 2019-20: Recently many areas were hit by the Tropical cyclones across the globe. In this article, we will enlist some of the cyclones along with their place of origin and the areas in which they caused havoc. This article is very important from the examination perspective and it will help you in your upcoming SSC and Railways exams.

Before moving on to the list of cyclones in India and across the globe, let us first know what the cyclone is.

What is a Cyclone?

A system of winds that rotates counterclockwise in the Northern Hemisphere around a low-pressure belt forms what is known to us as ‘Cyclone‘. These winds rise creating clouds and precipitation. 

They are categorized into two categories:

• Mid-latitude (Extratropical) cyclones and 
• Tropical cyclones.

Out of the two, tropical cyclones cause more havoc and bring devastating effects in the world. They originate in the oceans located in the tropical areas and pave their way to the coastal areas causing precipitation accompanied by violent winds.

Cyclone Vayu	It rose from a low-pressure area near the Maldives towards its north.  It was a severe storm in the North Indian ocean. It was first to form in the Arabian Sea.	India, Pakistan, Maldives, Oman.
Cyclone Hikka	Hikka originated in the Arabian Sea.	Gujarat, Saudi Arabia
Cyclone Maha	Maha originated in the Arabian Sea.	Oman, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Western India, Southern India
Cyclone Bulbul	It originated in the North Indian Ocean.	Bangladesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Myanmar, Eastern India
Cyclone Kyar	It originated in the East-central Arabian Sea.	Somalia, Yemen, Oman, West India
Cyclone Pawan	Somalia and the Arabian Sea in the Southwestern Arabian Sea.	Somalia and India.
Cyclone BOB 03	It originated in the Bay of Bengal	Parts of Odisha and West Bengal
Cyclone Amphan	It originated in the North Indian ocean	West Bengal, Odisha and Bangladesh
Cyclone Nisarga	It originated in the Arabian Sea.	Maharashtra, Goa, and Gujarat

Eye of the cyclone: Strong winds circulating spirally, characteristic of a tropical cyclone around the center which is termed as the eye of the cyclone.

Eye Wall: Surrounding the eye of the cyclone is the eyewall which is characterized by strong spiraling winds rising to a great height touching the tropopause.
