SSC Repeats its Questions Exam after Exam

You must have come across the quote,’history repeats itself’, many times in your life. The same quote is true for SSC exams as well. SSC repeats questions and that too in all sections (Reasoning, Maths, English and General Awareness). Have a look at the last 4-5 years’ question papers of the SSC CHSL Exam and you will find out that, there are around 2-3 questions in each section which are repeated every time. It is, therefore, necessary to solve the previous year’s papers. In the English Section, you will find repeated questions from One-Word Substitution, Idioms/phrases, Synonyms, Antonyms, Correction of sentences, etc. In Mathematics, you will find repeated questions from the topics like Mensuration, Trigonometry, Geometry & Algebra.

General Awareness is Scoring

Those students who are still not able to decode the pattern of the General Awareness section are bound to feel that its syllabus is too vast and therefore, it’s difficult to score in this section. However, if you analyze the GK Section of SSC CHSL previous year paper, you will realize that certain types of questions are repeated almost every year. For example, the first in India, Constitutional articles & amendments, commonly used chemicals, folk dances of India, superlatives, etc. Judging the pattern will make the General Awareness section scoring for each one of you.

Understanding the Basics of Maths is a Must

For many students, the Maths section is difficult and time-consuming. It has questions on all major topics like Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Mensuration, and Trigonometry. Many students believe that it’s almost impossible to score good marks without using tricks and shortcuts. What we feel is that tricks and shortcuts are undoubtedly helpful but you still need a basic concept to learn and use them effectively. Don’t forget that short tricks might ditch you at the last moment but basics will not.

Current Affairs are Equally Important for SSC CHSL Exam

Static GK forms the major portion of the General Awareness section of SSC CHSL. Questions from History, Polity, Geography, Science & Economics form the major chunk of GK. But, it is a mistake to ignore current affairs or take them lightly. SSC asks around 4-5 questions in the General Awareness section about the current affairs topic. So, covering all major events of the last 5-6 months can give you 4-5 marks for sure.

Don’t Avoid questions on Reading Comprehension

Many students believe that Reading Comprehension takes too much time and thus, it should be avoided. They feel that avoiding questions based on comprehension will save time which they can utilize in solving other questions. However, the passages are easy and can be answered quickly. The best thing about comprehension is, with a good reading speed & practice, you can easily score 5 to 10 marks. Another good thing about passages is that they don’t ask you to memorize any formulae or facts.

Knowledge of Higher Maths is not Compulsory

The most common questions in the mind of SSC aspirants regarding the Maths section are, Does SSC contain questions from higher class i. e. 11th – 12th?, Do I need to cover the syllabus of 11th & 12th Maths in order to perform better in SSC Exams?

Well, the answer is No. It’s clearly mentioned by SSC that Questions in Maths will be of 10th standard level and Questions in English will be of 10+2 level. However, you may find slightly difficult maths questions in SSC CGL Exam but not in SSC CHSL Exam.

Synonyms, Antonyms, One-Word Substitution & Idioms/phrases can be of Great Help

Aspirants normally don’t give importance to vocabulary. Due to this, they face many problems, especially in the English Section. If you want to improve your Vocabulary, we recommend Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis.

As far as SSC CHSL is concerned, you can easily prepare topics like Synonyms, Antonyms, One-Word Substitution & Idioms/phrases. Synonyms and Antonyms are repeated by SSC in the CHSL Exam. So, solving previous year papers can be of great help. These types of questions are easy to answer if you are familiar with enough English words. Try to study as many English words as possible.

Even if you are weak in Grammar, you can still get good marks in English

A lot of people can be heard saying that in order to score good marks in the English section of SSC CHSL Exam, one needs to master the Grammar section. However, that’s not always true. The English Section has 25 questions. Out of these, only 2-3 questions are dedicated to spotting errors and 2 questions are dedicated to the correction of sentences. These are the two sections where you need to have a strong command of Grammar. The rest of the questions are dedicated to reading, vocabulary and fundamental English usage. So, if you are weak in the Grammar section, you should focus on these topics to score better marks in English Section.
