The ACIO Grade 2 is the backbone of the department, which works at the ground level, which collects Intel and reports to the higher authorities. It is equivalent to the inspector when compared to the uniformed police force. This is an all-India job. Selected candidates can be deputed all over India. Salary and Other additional Incentives

Candidates are entitled to 44, 900 – 1, 42, 400 salary for IB ACIO job whereas Sub Inspector is of 4600 (starting salary 44900) pay grade job. Some extra incentives are given to ACIO in comparison to sub-inspectors. Extra incentives include special security allowance and cash compensation for working on holidays.

Candidates having graduation in any stream can appear for both the exams. The candidates must have Graduation Degree from any recognized university/institute with at least 55% marks to apply for the CGL examination conducted by SSC.

For being ACIO, there is no physical standard specified as such. Only a medical fitness test is required.
For sub-inspector, there are specific physical standards required. Candidates are required to clear the medical test. Candidates who are physically handicapped are not eligible.

Chest: 76 cms with expansion (not required for female)

Eyesight: Distant Vision: 6/6 in one and 6/9 in the other eye

IB ACIO and sub-inspector, both the jobs offer good promotion opportunities. A person can reach up to the level of Assistant Director in case of IB ACIO and to the level of senior Superintendent in case of Sub Inspector.

IB had recruited for the 750 position in 2014, 1430 positions and 2000 vacancy in 2021.  This is highest among the last three exams. One should grab this opportunity and must appear for 2020 exam.

SSC had recruited for 92 in 2017, 22 in 2018 and 57 positions in the year 2019. Candidates can expect an increase of vacancy for this post for the upcoming CGL 2020 exam as the post wise vacancy has not yet been released by SSC.

IB ACIO vs SSC CBI: Cut off marks

IB ACIO it is being conducted in three tiers, first two are written and the third tier is interview round.

For Sub Inspector Candidates need to qualify tier 1 and tier 2 and then final physical test.

Considering, IB ACIO 2017, which is the last conducted exam, cut off marks for tier 1 were 

65 and 30 for tier 2.

For Sub Inspector, final cut off marks were 559.25 – 506.75 in CGL 2017.

IB ACIO and Sub Inspector both are powerful position and upgrade our social status. ACIO is powerful in the sense that they work with government agencies like police, army, RAW, CBI etc. So, there are in direct connection with the higher authorities. Training of CBI SI:

  • Training of CBI SI officers is conducted at CBI Academy Ghaziabad.
  • Once the training has been completed successfully, zones are allotted based on the individual candidates’ performance. 
  • The training period is 59 weeks out of which 42 weeks training held in CBI Academy.

Training of IB ACIO:

Every batch of ACIO has 750 incoming officers. The training centre of ACIO is located at the Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh. As the of the centre is 120 trainees at one time officers are divided into 6 batches and are sent batch-wise. As the process is lengthy and time taking, it takes time to get the joining. 

The IB ACIO Training takes places in three stages:

  •  SHIVPURI, Madhya Pradesh 60 days of training.
  •  Delhi Training 60 days.
  • On the job training 60 days.

The candidate has to get minimum marks to be eligible for the next stage exam. This minimum required marks or cutoff varies depending upon a few factors like the number of candidates took the exam, the level of difficulty of the examination paper, and the number of vacancies.   • First promotion takes 5 years, i.e., the post of inspector. 
  • It usually takes 12-13 years to get promoted to the position of Deputy Superintendent.

Intelligence bureau offers a fair career growth to an individual. It generally takes 3 – 4 years for first promotion to get the position of ACIO I. Second promotion takes a bit longer, i.e., 10 years which is the position of DCIO. And finally, the third promotion officer gets promoted to the Assistant Director which usually takes 25 to 30 years. CBI SI offers better promotional opportunities as the candidate gets timely promotions.

Sub Inspector in CBI:  It takes 5 – 6 years to become an Inspector which is the first promotion. Then one gets promoted to the level of Deputy Superintendent after 8-10 years. After serving as deputy superintendent for 10 years, one reaches to the level of Additional Superintendent. Usually, a Sub Inspector go up to the rank of Senior Superintendent.
