“If you get anxious and frustrated while dealing with numbers and Quantitative” then you may have math phobia or lack of proper strategy”.

Quantitative aptitude is often regarded as one of the most difficult subjects of any competitive government exam. Although most applicants are terrified of this area, if thoroughly prepared and attempted within the time constraints, it might be the most scoring topic. In order to master this section of the examination, we are here with another useful article for the candidates. In this article, we will discuss the general problem of Quant and the order in which we should study math. Here we will tell you how to be a master of Quant.

This article would be extremely useful for the exams like SSC CGL Tier 1 and Tier 2, SSC MTS, SSC GD Constable, RRB NTPC CBT 1 and CBT 2,  and SSC CHSL 2021.

Generally, the students face problems in dealing with such a major part of SSC Exams due to a lack of proper strategy and order of studying math. If you know how to learn and what to learn then surely you can qualify for the SSC exam with less effort.

According to the SSC Exam syllabus of Quant includes 22 chapters out of which 4 chapters are of advanced mathematics and the remaining chapter are counted in the arithmetic portion. So students here is the order in which we should study quant.

• Ratio and proportion: The reason for starting with this chapter is, its concept is used in every chapter of mathematics. This chapter is base for every other chapter.
• Percentage: Next important chapter is percentage, as it is based on ratio so we can learn it easily. You have to learn some ratios for this chapter which are very useful. And both these chapters prepare our base for Profit and loss.
• Profit and loss: If we know the concept of above mention chapter then we can easily be a master of this chapter.
• SI and CI: This whole chapter is based on the percentage and ratio. For this chapter, your percentage chapter must be strong.
• Mixture and alligation: This whole chapter is based on the application of above mention chapter. In this chapter, every question is based on other chapters. If you practise it on regular basis then you can learn its significance in solving many questions directly.
• Time and work: This chapter is based on the ratio. In tier 2, questions based on ratio of efficiency are generally asked which can be solved easily if we know the ratio concept then we can solve this chapter easily.
• Pipes and Cisterns: This chapter is similar to time and work.
• Partnership: Ratio is the basis of this chapter.
• Time and distance: Basic concept speed and time is used. Completely solve through a short trick
• Boats and streams. Based on simple speed and time concepts.
• Train: this is also based on the speed and time concept, even ratio is useful in this chapter.
• Average: solve by common sense and hard questions can be solved with the help of mixture and alligations concept.
• Geometry: If you know the basics of geometry then you will be a master of this chapter. Read our notes if you have any problems.
• Mensuration: Based on formulas and some concepts of percentage and Geometry is used in this chapter.
• Indices and surds.
• Algebra: concept of surds is useful in this chapter
• Trigonometry: You have to learn some basic identities values. Concepts of algebra and ratio are useful in this chapter.
• Statistics and Data interpretation: The level of question from this chapter is easy. You can solve them easily
• Number System:
• HCF & LCM:
• Sequence and Series

## Tips for Solving Quant Questions

• There will be 25 questions in the SSC Exams question paper.

• You can solve questions of arithmetic easily but it is the time taken to solve questions of advanced math if you don’t know the short trick, then no need to practice it.
• Focus mainly on advanced math, as the chapter in advanced math is hard in comparison to arithmetic chapters.
• Advanced math questions can be solved easily in minimum time if you know the short tricks, for this you can read our notes.
• From Geometry and Coordinate Geometry there will be two 4 questions, and most probably from the circle topics so practice it more.
• From Mensuration, there will be around 2 to 3 questions and their difficulty level will be high, this chapter focuses mainly on prism, pyramid and cylinder etc.
• From Trigonometry chapters there will be around 3 to 4 questions and this chapter can be scoring if you have a grip on it.  Focus on maxima-minima, height and distance questions.

Tips for Arithmetic

• Arithmetic contains so many chapters that students get confused about which to practice first, for this confusion you can read my previous article in which I suggest the proper way of studying quantitative Best Strategy to Prepare Quantitative Aptitude Section for SSC CGL EXAM”
• If you are a new student and not able to solve all the arithmetic chapters then practice the chapters which are given as Ratio proportion, percentage, profit loss, Time and work, time and distance and compound interest and not forget to practice the number system.
• The Algebra portion with surds and indices stands for 2 to 3 questions, these questions will be time taken if you don’t know the short trick as these questions are solved by just putting the values.

General Tips

• Students who are preparing for the last one or two years have to harness their skills by practising it more and more.
• In Exam solve the quantitative section on the second number after solving English and try to solve it in 25 minutes one minute for each question.
• You can overcome the phobia of mathematics only by practising it more and more.
• Try to solve at least one previous year question paper of math on daily basis.
• Practice mathematics on daily basis and divide your time for advanced math and arithmetic.
• You can overcome this phobia only by a divide and rule policy.
• In question paper, some questions are difficult and time taking, so either leave them or try to solve them with the help of options.
• Try to use the elimination method, i.e. if you are able to eliminate 2 options out of 4 then go for it.
• Don’t use pen for every single calculation, just try to solve them in your mind, in starting it is the time taken but within 10 days you will see notice in your performance.
• Don’t use pen and paper while solving the practice paper and avoid them as much as you can.
• Always remember one thing practise makes a man perfect so don’t leave your practice.
• In question paper don’t think of solving every question, set your mind that you have to score good marks not to attempt every question as it creates only pressure.
• Try to solve easy questions first and don’t take a question as a challenge to your preparation.
• Practice SSC Exams Test Series regularly to brush up on your skills.

Ss, students follow this strategy and we’re sure, you will be the master of Quant. Every chapter of Quant is related to each other and the concepts are interlinked. More often than not, the concept of ratio and percentage are used in every chapter, without these two chapters you can’t do well in SSC CGL. The application of concepts of these two chapters helps in minimizing the calculation and help in taking the correct guess.
