Is GATE compulsory: The question that arises in every engineering student's mind is - Is GATE compulsory examination for all B.E and B.Tech students? Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is a national-level entrance exam administered by IISC and seven other IITs on a rotational basis every year. GATE is conducted for all the students desiring to pursue PG programs like ME, M.Tech, and Ph.D. from institutes like the IITs, NITs and candidates who wish to pursue job opportunities in the PSU sectors and MNCs.

And the explanation to the question 'Is GATE compulsory examination?' is - No, AICTE, whose full form is All India Council for Technical Education, has officially cleared that GATE is not mandatory for all B.Tech students yet.  Direct Admission Process in MTech Without GATE

After admission links are closed by these colleges like IITs, NITs and central government colleges, the merit list is out for students.

  1. If you take any admission test, the cut-off will be released.
  2. Students will be called for counselling if they have successfully scored more than the cut-off.
  3. The list of students will be released after the counselling.
  4. Students have to visit their respective colleges to get admission as the next and final step. Again, students need to verify documents and other formalities.

Is GATE Compulsory for PSUs?

 Various PSU specifies the eligibility criteria for recruitment through GATE in their official notification. Usually, the essential eligibility criteria needed to apply for the recruitment methodology for PSUs in India are as follows -

  • Age Limit: The age limit for various PSUs is usually between 21 and 28 years but 35 years for specific PSUs. 
  • B. Tech/B. E Qualified: The minimum pass percentage is 60% or 6 CGPA in B. E/B. Tech.
  • Medical Fitness: Candidates should be medically fit.
  • Valid GATE Score of the current year: The validity of the GATE Scorecard depends upon the particular PSU that recruits through GATE. However, in most recruitments, the GATE Score of the current year is acceptable.
