The enrollment for the HPCL selection process will be starting on 23 June 2022. The official notification is released in which all the details of the HPCL selection process are mentioned for the candidates. Here we have explained all three stages of the selection process for the HPCL recruitment.

Every stage in the HPCL selection process holds a great deal of importance as marks of each stage are used to determine your merit. Thus, you must try to score the maximum marks possible in each stage to ensure your selection into the HPCL 2022 recruitment.

HPCL Engineer Selection Procedure 2022

The official notification prescribes the HPCL selection process for the post of engineers as Mechanical Engineer, Civil Engineer, Electrical Engineer, and Instrumentation Engineer. There are a total of three stages in the selection process. The three stages of the HPCL selection procedure are given below:

  • Stage 1: Computer-based test (CBT)
  • Stage 2: Group Task
  • Stage 3: Interview

Let us discuss now each phase of the HPCL selection procedure 2022 in the subsequent paragraphs. 

HPCL Selection Process for CBT (Stage 1)

The first stage is the HPCL selection process is Computer Based Test (CBT). It is conducted to find suitable candidates for further HPCL Selection Process. Candidates fulfilling the HPCL eligibility criteria will be issued admit cards to appear for the online test. There are two parts to the CBT as given below.

Some important points regarding the CBT are:

  • There is no negative marking in either of the parts of the HPCL Exam.
  • All the questions in the CBT will be multiple-choice questions.

Candidates, in order to qualify for Stage 2 of the HPCL Selection Process, will have to obtain at least 50% in the domain section of the CBT to be able to appear for the next stage. The CBT accounts for 85% of the selection process. Further, candidates who will qualify for the online written test will have to upload the supporting documents for stage II.

HPCL Selection Procedure for Group Task (Stage 2)

The next part of the HPCL selection process is stage II. The documents of the shortlisted candidates from stage I will be scrutinized and a category-wise discipline merit list will be prepared. Such candidates will be called to appear for Group tasks as a part of stage II of the selection process for HPCL recruitment. 

The qualifying marks for the Group Task in the HPCL Recruitment are given below.

HPCL Selection Process for Personal Interview (Stage 3)

The Personal Interview will be the last stage of the HPCL selection process 2022 for engineering recruitment. Candidates in this session will be analyzed how much they are well aware with the practical knowledge of their core competence and will they be able to handle various roles and responsibilities that are assigned to any HPCL engineer. The interview session has a weightage of 10% in the final selection.

The HPCL Group Task and Interview are likely to be held on the same day. You will have to obtain the following qualifying marks as per your category for being shortlisted in the merit list.

HPCL Final Selection

The final stage of the HPCL selection process as an Engineer will be based on the merit list made by considering the marks obtained in all the stages (Stage I, II, III). The qualifying marks for being considered on the merit list are as given below.

Probation Period for HPCL Engineer

After the selection of the candidates in the final stage, all the candidates who will be appointed as HPCL Engineers will be on probation for 1-year from the date of joining the service. Rs. 5000/month will be as a retention amount from the total emoluments for the first six months during the probation period and will be returned after being appointed as a permanent member of HPCL.

HPCL Exam Selection Process FAQs

  • There are a total of three stages in the HPCL selection process. The selection process for the HPCL Recruitment for engineers comprises an Online Computer-Based Test (CBT), Group Task, and Interview. Candidates will have to qualify for each round in the process. 

  • The final selection for HPCL Recruitment 2022 is done on the basis of the marks scored in the Computer-Based Test (CBT), Group Task, and Interview. 

  • The qualifying marks in the CBT for HPCL Recruitment is 50% for all categories in the domain section and 60% for UR/EWS & 54% for SC/ST/PwBD/OBC in Overall Marks (Part I & Part II).

  • There are two papers in the HPCL Stage I, which are:

    • General Aptitude and
    • Technical / Professional Knowledge.

    The questions in the part I will be common for all the disciplines whereas in part II, individual branch wise questions will be asked based on the course of choice of the candidates. 

  • The CBT accounts for 85% of the final selection round for the HPCL Recruitment. It is an essential part of the HPCL selection process. Candidates are advised to score as high as they can in order to take full advantage of this stage. No negative marks are awarded in this stage which can be a added bonus to the deserving candidates. 

  • All the questions in the HPCL online test are objective multiple-choice questions. Candidates will have to select the best suitable and correct answer from the given choices. No negative marking will be awarded for the wrong attempt.

  • No, there is no negative marking in the HPCL CBT Exam for Engineers. 0 marks will be awarded for the wrong attempt or no attempt. The CBT stage is one of the most important stages of the selection process.
