  2. Turning pair
  3. Screw pair
  4. Sliding pair

Answer: A. Belt and pulley

Belt and pulley amongst the following constitutes a higher pair.

A kinematic pair is a joint of two elements having relative motion between them. According to the nature of the contact, it is classified into a Higher pair and lower pair.

Lower pair: Lower pairs are created when the surfaces of two elements in a pair come into touch during relative motion, and one element’s surface slips over the other. Examples of lower pairs are sliding pairs, rotating pairs, and screw pairs.

E.g., Slider crank, Screw pair, Universal joint.

Higher pair: The pair is referred to as a higher pair when the two parts of the pair make a line or point contact when relative motion occurs and the motion between the two elements is partially turning and partially sliding. Higher pairs include cam and follower, ball and roller bearings, belt and rope drives, and a pair of toothed gears.

E.g., Belt and pulley, Cam and follower, Roller bearing, and Tooth gear.

Hence belt and pulley amongst the following constitute a higher pair.
