What are MindMaps?
A mind map is a type of structure. It's a method of assisting you with organising, visualising, and summarising. Its aim is to make it easier to store information on a single file. Having a mind map will make studying and revising certain subjects faster and more interesting. Mind maps may be created by hand or with the help of a computer programme.
Importance of Mind Maps:
Following are some of the uses of mind maps for students in general
- Mind maps can be a useful tool for taking notes and planning essays.
- It can help in memorizing and saves a lot of time
- It can assist you in visualising the layout of a topic, as well as the key facts and their relationships.
- Mind maps will help you with seeing the big picture and how the pieces go together.
- It also helps in revising lengthy topics in one go without taking much time.
How to use mind maps for the General Awareness section?
In the General awareness section, while studying any topic after you have completed the topic you can make a mind map on the topic covering all the important details and keywords. In this way, you can revise the topic which you have completed and also this would help in revision the topic in future too. In this History, where one needs to remember the dates and timeline, mind maps can be useful there too. In subjects like Polity, where we need to learn the basics of the government body, functioning of various organization, you can take the help of these mind maps. One of the most important things is: You can easily add new information to the existing one without any problem
For Eg: If you want to make a mind map on the topic "president", you can include details following details
- Articles related to the President
- Qualification required to become President
- Different types of powers of the president
- Presidential rule etc.

How to Make Mind Map?
Let us learn step by step to make mind maps:
Step 1: Write down all the important information that you want to remember on the blank page
Step 2: Identify the Main Idea or topic on which the whole concept is based. Write in the big font you can write in the middle too. (Refer to the Image)
Step 3: After that try to categories the information into sub-headings under which the remaining information can be written. These sub-headings should be various aspects of the main idea which would help in understanding the main concept.
Step 4: The information, which has been written under sub-headings, would be explaining the sub-headings in detail.
Things to remember while making mind maps
- Make sure that you do not miss any important details
- Likewise, do not mention irrelevant information.
- Details written in the mind maps should be crisp
- Do not write long sentences because you have to write all information on one page.
- Write important keywords that would help you recall the whole sentence.
