This study plan and strategy will help you make a detailed plan on preparing English. You can now customize your practice to focus on the most important topics of English in SSC CGL syllabus.

There is a phobia of English in many students, they think that it is the toughest subject and cannot be prepared easily. But the fact is that it is the most scoring subject in SSC CGL as it stands for 250 marks combining PRE and Mains.(Read the SSC CGL selection process for more details). If you follow the right strategy and have a proper approach towards your goals then no one can stop you from scoring good marks in English. Maths and English stand for 500 marks out of 600 i..e 83.3%. So both English and Maths is the main subject for SSC CGL. Students pay more attention towards Maths but they neglect English by creating a prejudiced view in their minds that English is a tough subject.

The main reasons or the main causes of this phobia are the coaching centers and the people who are creating it in order to earn money.  Tell me a think have you ever joined any coaching center for learning your native language. If YES then go and join any coaching centers who are building their dreams on your phobia, if your answer is NO, then why you are so confused or under pressure of English language.

Here is the right plan and strategy that you must follow:

Give 2 to 3 hour for English section on daily basis. So how we should divide it, is the main thing.

(1)First of all, start your English preparation time with newspaper reading for only 20 minutes.

  • Read between the lines and see the preposition and article which are used before words and noun.
  • Make a notebook and note down words that seem difficult to you so in this way you can prepare vocab+ grammar+ spelling + new idiom phrases and new one-word substitution.
  • And the most important thing you should do is to check your grammar rule with newspaper and cross checks your grammar.

(2)Second, read the Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis for vocab portion.

  • This is the best book for the English vocab.
  • By reading this both your vocab and one-word substitution portion are prepared.
  • Read only one chapter of this book on a daily basis and It will take only 10 to 20 minutes for one chapter.
  • All vocab related question of SSC CGL comes from this book.

(3)Third, try a previous year paper on a daily basis.

  • By doing so you can see which type of questions are asked in SSC CGL Exam. Take our SSC CGL test series for a better idea of the exam pattern.
  •  As all of you know that practice makes a man perfect, after 10 to 15 sets you can recognize the question easily and able to score well.
  • SSC always repeat the question so if you solve a paper on a daily basis you can attempt the entire repeated question in exam paper within second of time.
  • It will take hardly half an hour.
  • For previous year questions buy Ajay Kumar Singh's book of MB publication. You can also solve SSC CGL 2016 question paper for a start.

(4)Last, read the Grammar book and revised what you have read.

  • So time left after following above three steps is 50 minutes if you give 2 hour for English section.
  • Read the grammar book as it will clear your all the doubts and improve your grammar.
  •  Grammar plays an important role both in Pre and Mains exam.
  • For grammar you can read SP Bakshi .

Guys you are the real mentor of yourself as  no one knows you better than you.  You know your weakness as well as strong point. So focus on your weak point and prepare yourself for the upcoming SSC CGL Exam. Always keep your goal high and never underestimate yourself. You will have an SSC CGL job profile, keep this in your mind.
