  • Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born on 5th September 1888 in the poor brahmin family at Madras.
  • He supported the modern form of Hinduism and wrote so many books to make Indian traditions popular.
  • He also wrote a thesis titled ''The Ethics of the Vedanta and its Metaphysical Presuppositons'' which became very popular.
  • He aimed for the establishment of a casteless and classless society. 
  • Some of his famous works include The Philosophy of Upanishads, East and West, Some reflections, Eastern Religions and Western Thought.
  • Based on his good academic career, he also served as a Chancellor at DU and vice-chancellor at BHU.
  • He was the I Vice President and the II President of India.
  • He was conferred upon with Bharat Ratna in 1954 and the British Order of merit amid so many awards in his lifetime.
  • He was the I person to get Sahitya Akademi Fellowship in 1968.
  • He was also the recipient of the Templeton Prize (equivalent to Nobel Prize in Religion) in the year 1975. 
  • He taught in many prestigious institutes including Oxford University.
  • He was a Hindu philosopher and played a pivotal role in introducing Hinduism to the Western world.
  • He was nominated for Nobel Prize in Literature for 16 times.
  • He was also nominated for Nobel Prize in Peace for 11 times.
  • He died in 1975 on 17th April but is still alive in the hearts of many as a great teacher ever lived.
