UPSC IES Eligibility 2023 – IES Exam Age Limit, Qualification, Percentage

The IES eligibility 2023 has been set up by the Union Public Service Commission. IES exam eligibility is important because it determines whether a candidate is eligible to appear for the IES exam or not. This examination is conducted for a total of 327 vacancies this year. Candidates must understand the criteria for IES eligibility criteria in order to determine whether or not they are eligible to apply for the examination. As per the notification released by UPSC, in order to appear in the exam, a candidate must check the IES exam eligibility. It gives an opportunity to engineers to work under the government of India and be designated as Class- 1 officers in public sectors. The IES eligibility 2023 is made up of a number of factors that are combined to decide whether or not an applicant is eligible to sit for the exam.

UPSC IES Eligibility Criteria 2023

The UPSC IES eligibility criteria for the IES exam are set to ensure that only qualified and deserving candidates with the required academic and professional qualifications are allowed to participate in the selection process. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is hiring for 327 Group A and Group B posts through this exam. IES Eligibility: Nationality

According to the IES eligibility, the nationality of a candidate to appear in the examination must be either:

  • (a) A citizen of India or
  • (b) A subject of Nepal or A subject of Bhutan or
  • (c) A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st of January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or
  • (d) A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), and (d) above shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

IES Eligibility: Age Limit

In order to satisfy the IES age limit, a candidate for this examination must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on the 1st of January 2020.

  • The upper age limit of 30 years will be relaxable up to 35 years in the case of Government servants of the following categories if they are employed in a Department/Office under the control of any of the authorities mentioned in column 1 below and apply for admission to the examination for all or any of the Service(s)/Posts mentioned in column 2, for which they are otherwise eligible.
  • The upper age limit prescribed above will be further relaxable:
  1. Up to a maximum of five years if a candidate belongs to a scheduled caste or a scheduled tribe.
  2. IES Age Limit is up to a maximum of three years in the case of candidates belonging to the OBC category.
  3. Up to a maximum of five years if a candidate had ordinarily been domiciled in the state of Jammu and Kashmir during the period from 1st January 1980 to the 31st day of December 1989.
  4. Up to a maximum of three years in the case of defense service personnel disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area, and released as a consequence thereof.
  5. Up to a maximum of five years in the case of ex-servicemen including Commissioned Officers and ECOs/SSCOs who have rendered at least five years of Military Service as of 1 August, and have been released
    • on completion of assignment (including those whose assignment is due to be completed within one year from 1st August) otherwise than by way of dismissal or discharge on account of misconduct or inefficiency, or
    • on account of physical disability attributable to military service or
    • on invalided;
  6. Up to a maximum of five years in the case of ECOs/SSCOs who have completed an initial period of assignment of five years of military services as of 1 August, and whose assignment has been extended beyond five years and in whose case the Ministry of Defense issues a certificate that they can apply for civil employment and they will be released on three months notice on selection from the date of receipt of an offer of appointment.
  7. Up to a maximum of 10 years in the case of blind, deaf-mute, and orthopedically handicapped persons.

IES Eligibility: Educational Qualification

The IES educational qualification of a candidate appearing in the examination is officially described by UPSC. Candidates must fulfill the IES eligibility for the following educational qualification criteria:

  • Obtained a degree in engineering from a university incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as universities under section 3 of the university grants commission act, 1956 or
  • Passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India) or
  • Obtained a degree/diploma in engineering from such foreign university/ college/ institution and under such conditions as may be recognized by the government for the purpose from time to time or
  • Passed graduate membership examination of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India) or
  • Passed associate membership examination parts II and III/ Sections A and B of the aeronautical society of India or
  • Passed graduate membership examination of the Institution of Electronics and radio engineers, London held after November 1959
  • Provided that a candidate for the post of Indian Naval Armament Service (Electronics engineering posts and Engineer Group ‘A’ in Wireless Planning and Coordination Wing/ Monitoring Organization) may possess any of the above qualifications or the qualification mentioned below namely: M.Sc. degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communication, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as a special subject.

IES Eligibility for Medical Fitness Exam

Candidates finally recommended by the Commission on the basis of the Engineering Services Examination, 2023 shall be required to undergo a medical examination. The IES eligibility 2023 for the medical fitness examination is as follows:

  • Every candidate, on being finally recommended by Commission will be required to undergo a medical examination as and when so decided by the Ministry of Railways (Railway Board) irrespective of the fact that he/she has appeared for such medical examination in the past and found fit/unfit on the basis of earlier examination.
  • The medical examination will be conducted at various Railway Hospitals under the Ministry of Railways (Railway Board). Other additional instructions for candidates are listed in Annexure II. The findings of the Railways Medical Board will be taken as final and binding for all allotment purposes.
  • Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission as per guidelines given in Appendix II of the rules for the examination.
  • A valid government-issued photo ID card and three passport-size pictures must be carried at all times.
  • Candidates who fall under the PwD category must bring an original disability certificate in the format provided, as well as a photocopy of the same.
  • Candidates who are judged to be unfit will be excluded from the rest of the process.
