Hydraulic Mean Depth Formula
By BYJU'S Exam Prep
Updated on: September 25th, 2023
The hydraulic mean depth formula is
- m = P/A
- m = 4P/A
- m = A/P
- m = 4A/P
(Where, m = hydraulic mean depth, A= cross-section area of flow, P= wetted perimeter)
Table of content
Answer: Option C
The hydraulic mean depth formula is m = A/P
Solution:
The hydraulic mean depth is the ratio of the cross-section area of flow to the wetted perimeter. The hydraulic mean depth is also known as the hydraulic radius. The hydraulic mean depth formula is given as;
m = A/P
If the hydraulic radius is greater, the wetted perimeter will be less. It means that less fluid comes into contact with the channel or pipe portion, reducing resistance to flow and allowing more discharge to pass through.
