What is GATE Marks & GATE Score?
There is a difference between GATE marks and GATE scores. All students keep on searching about what is GATE score calculation, how to calculate scores, but only a few can differentiate between the two terms, so let us move towards the definition.
- Actual GATE marks - The actual GATE marks are the marks a student achieves on paper out of a maximum of 100 marks.
- Normalized GATE marks - Multiple paper sessions are held for GATE examinations in civil and mechanical engineering. As a result, a neutralized score normalization technique is used. It helps bring all applicants to the same level when assessing them.
- GATE score - A student's GATE score is calculated out of 1000 marks. The scores are derived using just the actual marks for papers taken in a single session. The marks are normalized and subsequently into the GATE score for the paper taken in multiple sessions.
Calculation of Normalized GATE Marks
Every year, due to the large number of applicants who choose ME and CE papers, these two exams are held in two sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
