ESE ECE Exam Pattern 2022

ESE ECE Exam Pattern 2022 is notified by the UPSC in its official notification. The Engineering Services Examination (ESE) Electronics and Telecommunication (ECE) Engineering exam pattern and syllabus form the crucial pre-requisite as a part of the selection procedure. UPSC conducted one of the esteemed engineering examinations for Mechanical, Electrical, Civil and Electronics, and Telecommunication Engineering. We have discussed the ESE/IES ECE pattern for all the stages here as given below:

Stage I: ESE ECE Prelims

Stage II: ESE ECE Mains

Stage III: ESE ECE Personality Test/Interview

You need to qualify for each stage of the examination process to be eligible for an appointment into the ESE ECE Group A/B services. You must note that UPSC conducts the ESE Prelims and Mains Exam in offline mode only, i.e. pen and paper mode. ESE ECE Prelims Exam Pattern

The ESE ECE Prelims Exam is the first stage of the selection process for UPSC ESE 2022 Exam. 

  • The ESE ECE Prelims Exam comprises of objective multiple-choice questions.
  • There are two papers in the ESE Prelims Exam with the 1st part focussing on the General Studies and Engineering Aptitude and 2nd part focussing on the core engineering branch which is ECE.
  • The total marks in the ESE ECE Prelims Exam is 500 marks.
  • All the questions will be set in English Langauge only. 
  • The marking scheme for the ESE ECE Prelims exam is given in the next paragraph.

Marking Scheme for ESE ECE Prelims Exam 

The marking scheme for the UPSC ESE ECE Prelims Exam has been given below.

For correct answer, you will be awarded 1 mark while for incorrect answer you will lose ⅓ mark assigned to that question.

ESE Electronics & Communication Mains Exam Pattern

Candidates qualifying the ESE Prelims Paper will have to appear for the ESE ECE Mains Exam.

  • All the questions will be set in English Language only and must be answered in English medium only and are descriptive/conventional in nature.
  • There are two papers in the ESE ECE Mains Exam with each paper based on the core subject only, i.e. Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering syllabus. 
  • Each paper is of 300 marks for a duration of 3 hours each.
  • You must note that the commission has the right to deduct up to 5% of the total marks in case if you handwriting in illegible.

ESE ECE Personality Test

The ESE Personality Test/Interview is conducted for those candidates who qualify the ESE ECE Mains Exam. Such candidates will have to fill up the Detailed Application Form or DAF before appearing for the ESE ECE Interview/Personality Test. 

While appearing for the UPSC ESE ECE Personality Test/Interview, the commission will also conduct the Document Verification (DV). You will have to carry your original as well as a photocopy of all the documents. 

The ESE ECE Personality Test determines the following qualities:

  • The capacity of being a leader
  • Initiative And Intellectual Curiosity
  • Tact And Other Social Qualities
  • Mental And Physical Energy
  • Powers of Practical Application, etc.

After conducting all three stages, a merit list will be prepared by the UPSC on the basis of the marks secured by you in the Prelims, Mains and Interview. Thus, each stage holds a great deal of importance for you in the UPSC ESE ECE Selection Process. 

ESE ECE Medical Examination

After qualifying all the three stages of the ESE ECE Exam 2021, the candidates whose names will appear on the merit list will be called for a medical examination as per the UPSC guidelines.
