ESE IES ECE Syllabus 2021

The ESE IES ECE Syllabus is released by the UPSC in its official notification. The UPSC conducts the ESE/IES exam for Group A/B category of candidates in four engineering disciplines: Mechanical, Electrical, Civil and Electronics and Telecommunication to cater to the managerial and technical job requirements. The standard of the ESE/IES ECE Syllabus is based on the graduation level as per the engineering branch chosen by the candidates while filling application form.

The syllabus comprises two stages. The first stage is the ESE Prelims Exam while the second is the Mains Exam. The last stage is the Interview. The syllabus has the questions related to the General Studies and Engineering Aptitude and ECE for mains and prelims exams. ESE IES Syllabus for ECE

ESE IES ECE Exam Pattern 2021

Before we discuss the syllabus, let us first look at the ESE ECE Exam Pattern.

  • As discussed above, the ESE ECE has two papers, Prelims, Mains followed by an interview. 
  • The ESE Prelims Exam has two papers having objective multiple-choice questions.
  • Candidates who will qualify the ESE ECE Prelims Exam will be shortlisted to take the Mains Exam.
  • The ESE ECE Mains Exam will cover only the questions related to Electronics and Telecom Engineering that you studied in your B.E/B.Tech course. 
  • Moreover, all the questions in the ESE ECE Mains Exam as descriptive in nature. 
  • There is a negative marking of ⅓ for an incorrect answer in the ESE Prelims paper while 1 mark is awarded for a correct answer.
  • On the other hand, there is a deduction of up to 5% of the maximum marks in the ESE Mains Paper if your handwriting is illegible.
  • The ESE ECE Prelims Exam is of 500 marks while the mains is of 600 marks.
  • Candidates qualifying both Prelims and Mains Exam of the ESE ECE 2021 exam will appear for the Interview that is of 200 marks.

The UPSC ESE ECE General Studies and Engineering Aptitude Syllabus for the Prelims Exam/Stage I is given below.

General Studies and Engineering Aptitude Syllabus

The ESE ECE Paper I syllabus for the Prelims exam has questions that do not require special study. 

  • Current issues of national and international importance relating to social, economic and industrial development
  • Engineering Aptitude covering Logical reasoning and Analytical ability
  • Engineering Mathematics and Numerical Analysis
  • Ethics and values in the engineering profession
  • General Principles of Design, Drawing, Importance of Safety
  • Standards and Quality practices in production, construction, maintenance and services
  • Basics of Energy and Environment: Conservation, environmental pollution and degradation, Climate Change, Environmental impact assessment
  • Basics of Project Management
  • Basics of Material Science and Engineering
  • Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) based tools and their applications in Engineering such as networking, e-governance and technology-based education.

The UPSC ESE/IES Syllabus for Paper-II (objective) and ESE ECE Mains (conventional) are the same. However, the difficulty level is likely to vary in the Prelims and Mains Exam.

ESE IES ECE Interview

Candidates who will qualify both the stages of the UPSC ESE/IES Prelims and Mains Exam will be called to appear for the Interview. The ESE Interview is of 200 marks. 

The final selection will be made on the basis of the marks secured by the candidates in the UPSC ESE Prelims, Mains, and Interview. This means that the selection is made out of 1300 marks.
