Answer: The two kinds of Main Memory are Primary Memory and Secondary Memory.
RAM and ROM are the primary memory. RAM is a primary-volatile memory whereas ROM is a primary-non-volatile memory. On the other hand, Hard drive, CD, etc. are the part of secondary memory.
Random Access Memory (RAM)
Below are some points concerned with the RAM:
-
It is also known as primary memory or main memory.
-
The information required by the CPU during the execution of a program is stored in the RAM.
-
There are two types of RAM: Static Random Access Memory (SRAM) and Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM).
-
It is temporary storage.
-
It is used in normal operations.
Read Only Memory (ROM)
The details on ROM can be read below:
-
It always retains its data.
-
It is used in calculators and peripheral devices.
-
It stores crucial information that is required to operate the system.
-
There are four types of ROM: MROM, PROM, EPROM, and EEPROM.
Summary:
The two kinds of Main Memory are
Primary Memory and Secondary Memory are the two types of main memory. The memory unit can be implemented using a variety of memory chips- different speeds, different manufacturing technology, and different sizes.
