Ministry of Culture – Government of India Schemes for UPSC Exams

Ministry of Culture is the ministry under the Government of India which is tasked with the preservation and promotion of art and culture of India. India has a rich and diverse cultural heritage has formed this ministry to preserve, promote as well as disseminate all forms of art and culture across the nation. Prahlad Singh Patel is at present the Minister of Culture.

Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav

The Objective of the Scheme is to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the country in various dimensions like  Handicrafts, Cuisine, Painting, Sculpture, and Performing Arts-Folk, Tribal, Classical and Contemporary- all in one place.

  • It was launched by  Prime Minister in 2016, to promote engagement amongst the people of different States
  • Union Territories, to enhance mutual understanding and bonding between people of different cultures.
  • There will be a pairing of States/UTs at the national level, and the pairings will be effective for one year or till the further pairings.
  • The activity will be very useful to connect various States and Districts in annual programs
  • It will connect people with exchanges in areas of culture, tourism, language, education trade, and citizens will experience the cultural diversity of a much larger number of States/UTs while realizing that India is one.

PROJECT MAUSAM

The Objective of Project Mausam is to  explore the multifaceted Indian Ocean ‘world.’

  • Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) act as the nodal agency research
  • Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts and National Museum works as the associate bodies.
  • The main focus area of the project is to re-establish and re-connect communications between 39 countries of the Indian Ocean world.
  • Another focuses on understanding national cultures in the regional maritime milieu.

SEVA BHOJ SCHEME

The intent of the scheme is to reduce the financial burden of Charitable Religious Institutions.

  • It envisages reimbursing Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), and Central Government’s share of Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST) paid while buying some raw food items by Charitable/Religious Institutions for distributing free food to the public.
  • It is applicable on all Charitable Religious Institutions like Temples, Gurudwara, Mosque, Church, Dharmik Ashram, Dargah, Matth, Monasteries, etc. who serve free food to at least 5000 people in a month.

Adarsh Smarak

It’s Objective to provide amenities of international standards around monuments.

  • Its aim is to provide Interpretation and audio-video centre and streamline wastewater etc.
  • It is being launched by Archaeological Survey of India (ASI)

Jatan and Darshak

The Objective of the Scheme is improving the museum visit experience among the differently-abled.

  • Ministry of culture, in collaboration with Centre for Development for Advanced Computing (C-DAC), has made a software Jatan” that is set to revolutionize museum experience.
  • C-DAC has launched “Darshak, a mobile-based application.

Junior Heritage Mistri Scheme

 
  • This scheme comes under the Heritage Mason programme by Central Government.
  • Rajasthan was chosen as pilot State for the scheme because of its rich architectural heritage.
  • Rajasthan govt is preparing a new class of masons to help conserve the State’s rich architectural heritage.
  • Under the programme, the govt has started training youths on indigenous building practices, arts and crafts, traditional structures and knowledge systems, with an emphasis on preservation of heritage architecture.
