PPSC Exam Pattern 2022 is important for the candidates appearing in the Punjab PCS Examination. Read the latest PPSC Prelims and Mains exam pattern and interview process here.

PPSC Exam Pattern 2022: The PPSC CCE Preliminary Exam involves two stages. The first stage of examination includes an examination with multiple choice questions in the question papers, and the second stage involves subjective questions and a written reply to those questions. Subsequently, on qualifying both the stages, the candidates will be called for an interview.

  2. Main Competitive Examination (written and viva-voce/Interview)

PPSC Prelims Exam Pattern 2022

The PCE will consist of two papers of 200 marks each. The question paper shall comprise objective-type (multiple choice) questions. The scheme details are as follows:

Important Highlights:

  • Both the papers, Paper-I and Paper-II will be of objective type with multiple choices given.
  • The candidates with a physical disability will be given an additional 40 minutes to the 2 hours allotted for the papers.
  • No negative marking in the Preliminary Competitive Examination. [There will be negative marking for any objection to the Answer Key found false or frivolous or not supported by any of the authentic sources.
  • The question papers shall be bilingual- English & Punjabi
  • For English, Roman script, and for Punjabi, Gurumukhi script will be used except for questions where candidates’ proficiency in the language is to be tested.
  • The difficulty level (standard of questions) the questions in the paper would be to test the knowledge as is expected of a person (who has attained education at least up to graduation level).
  • PCE is only a screening test for selecting candidates who would be eligible to take the Main Examination.  The marks obtained in this examination will not be counted for the final merit of selection.
  • The number of candidates of up to 13 times of the vacancies advertised in each category would qualify from those who appeared from the PCE for the Main Examination.

The Main Examination would comprise seven papers. All papers shall be descriptive.

Important Highlights:

  • Each paper duration will be of 3 hours and visually impaired candidates would be given an extra 60 minutes in each paper.
  • All the question papers will be set in English, except the language papers. But for the candidates who opted for Punjabi medium will be provided with the questions set accordingly.
  • The candidates will have an option to attempt all the papers, the exception is granted to the language papers- English and Punjabi.
  • The candidates who are willing to appear all the papers in the Punjabi language may give an English version within the brackets (only the description of the technical terms), in addition to the version in the Punjabi language. 

PPSC Interview stage

  • The candidates not more than three times the number of vacancies advertised in each category shall be called for the interview, provided they have appeared and qualified for the Main Written Examination.
  • The candidates who qualify for the Main Competitive Examination and meet all the ‘Eligibility Criteria’ as cited in the Notification shall be called for the interview.
    1. If a candidate obtains 45% marks in the aggregate of all the papers (40% belonging to SC and STs) including at least 25% marks in each paper. Here aggregate of all papers includes an aggregate of General Studies Paper means ‘Aggregate of Paper-I, Paper-II, Paper-III, and Paper-IV.
    2. If enough candidates do not obtain 45% marks in the aggregate, the Commission may at their discretion lower the percentage i.e. up to 40% in general and 35% for the candidates belonging to the SC and STs. However, the minimum percentage for each paper shall remain unchanged.
  • The names of the qualified candidates shall be arranged in order of merit. These arrangements will be made according to the aggregate marks obtained from the Main Examination and Interview.

Note: In case, two or more candidates score equal aggregate marks in Main and Interview, the candidate having higher marks in the written part of the Main examination shall be ranked higher. And the candidates securing the same marks in the Main exam, the one having scored higher in General studies will be given preference. And if that is also found the same, then in such cases, the candidates with older age will be given the preference.

PPSC Exam Pattern FAQs

  • There are a total of seven papers in the written test. There are four General Studies papers for 250 marks each, one Essay paper worth 150 marks, and one English and Punjabi paper worth 100 marks each. In the Mains Written round, the total marks are 1350.

  • The Preliminary Examination includes multiple-choice questions and objective-type questions.
