GATE ME Exam Pattern 2022

GATE ME is one of the most anticipated branches in the GATE exam. Candidates belonging to the mechanical engineering field can apply for GATE ME 2022. It is very important to know the GATE Mechanical exam pattern 2022 so that candidates can have full-proof preparation for the exam. The maximum number of candidates observed in any branch of the GATE exam is that of GATE ME. Candidates can streamline their entire preparation by knowing the updated exam pattern which will ensure to give the best results.

GATE ME Exam Pattern Key Important Pointers

  • Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs)​ , and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions will be asked in the exam.
  • No negative marking for any wrong attempt for NAT questions
  • The GATE ME paper has three parts including General Aptitude, Engineering Mathematics, and Subject-specific part (Mechanical Engineering).
  • Questions related to the General Aptitude (Language and Analytical Skills) & Engineering Mathematics in addition to the main subject of the paper will also be included in the exam.
  • 72% weightage is given to the Mechanical Engineering section, 15%, to General Aptitude, and 13% to Engineering Mathematics in GATE 2022 Exam.

Total Number of Sections in the GATE Mechanical Exam

GATE ME 2022 will have three different sections:

  • General aptitude
  • Engineering Mathematics
  • The subject selected by the candidates (Mechanical Engineering Subjects)
  • General Aptitude carrying 15% of the total marks, Engineering Mathematics carrying 13% of the total marks, and Mechanical Engineering Subject Questions carrying 72% of the total marks.

GATE ME 2022 Time Duration and Marks Details

  • The total marks in GATE ME are 100
  • The total number of questions is 65.
  • The duration of GATE ME is of 3-hours
  • It is a computer-based paper.
  • The language of the GATE ME exam is English.

GATE Mechanical Marking Scheme 2022

  • One-third marks will be deducted for the incorrect attempts  for every 1 Mark MCQs 
  • Two-third marks will be deducted for every 2 Mark MCQs 
  • No marks will be given nor any marks will be deducted for questions that are left unanswered.
  • No deduction of marks for the wrong answers in Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.
  • No partial credit for choosing partially correct combinations of choices or any single wrong choice.
