GATE Mechanical Counselling 2023: Check Start Dates & Admission Process

Candidates who qualify in the GATE ME Exam can get admission to IITs by applying to COAP for M.Tech admission. The Counselling for IITs is done in online mode on the COAP site. Before you get to know the process of counseling for GATE, it is important to the following terms first. You will come across the following terms while applying for GATE counseling;

1. Accept and Freeze: You have accepted the allotted seat and do not want up-gradation.
2. Retain and Wait: You have accepted the given seat but want up-gradation. 
3. Reject and Wait: A candidate does not want to accept any offers. 

COAP and CCMT are in charge of conducting the counseling process for the GATE ME 2023 exam. IITs and NITs will jointly announce the conducting institutes for COAP and CCMT 2023 soon after GATE ME 2023 results are out. COAP and CCMT counseling require candidates to separately apply for both to get admission to the participating institutes. 

GATE 2023 Counselling Dates

Candidates should also know that state and private universities can conduct their counseling based on GATE scores. Using the GATE counseling process, candidates will be allotted their respective colleges based on their GATE scores.

• The exam conducting authority for GAte 2023 will be announced soon.
• Candidates must apply for COAP and CCMT counseling for admission to the participating institutes.
• Based on GATE scores, COAP is conducted for admission to IITs.
• CCMT is conducted for admissions to NITs, IIITs, and GFITs.
• Many institutes conduct a written test or interview for shortlisting candidates.

GATE 2023 Counselling - M.Tech Admissions into IITs

• MTech Admissions in IITs will be done only if the candidate fills out a separate application form.
• Candidates need to apply for COAP Counselling for admissions to IITs.
• Candidates have to register on the individual institute’s website as well.

GATE Counselling 2023 - M.Tech Admissions into NITs, IIITs, and GFITs

• Candidates should apply for CMT Counselling for MTech admissions in NITs, IIITs, and GFITs.
• A total of three regular rounds will take place.
• Steps of registration, payment of the fee, and choice locking followed by the document verification will be part of the counseling process.
• GATE scores/ranks, availability of seats, and choices locked by the candidates will determine the final seat allotment in the GATE Counselling 2023 process.

The candidates are expected to carry their original identity card (Including Photograph), which a qualified authority has administered. In addition, the international aspirants must hold a valid Passport, a Nation Issued ID card, a Worker Identity card, or a Study card as living identity verification for GATE Mechanical Counselling 2023. The other documents that candidates would require are as follows.

• Class 10th certificate and mark sheet
• Class 12th certificate and mark sheet
• Graduation mark sheet of all the semester
• Caste certificate (if applicable)
• EWS Certificate (if applicable)
• GATE Admit Card
• Valid Photo ID
• GATE Scorecard
• College leaving certificate issued by the college
• Passport size photograph of the candidate.

State and private universities will conduct a separate counseling process. Many universities may conduct separate written tests and interviews for the admission process.
