HPCL Engineer Exam 2021: Normalization

Due to the pandemic condition and a large number of applicants, HPCL Engineer Exam 2021 are conducted in different shifts. HPCL has released the normalization formula for multiple shifts papers to minimize any variation of results.

The following data are to be calculated for every shift for all the candidates for normalization:

• S2: The standard deviation of the shift with the highest average score used as the base for normalisation
• S1: The associated shift’s standard deviation (to be scaled to S2)
• X: Candidate’s raw score
• Xav: The Shift’s simple average
• Yav: Average for the shift with the highest average (taken as Base for normalization)

Each candidate’s normalised score (Xn) = (S2 / S1) * (X – Xav) + Yav
