ESE CE Selection Process 2021

The UPSC ESE IES Civil Selection Process is a three-stage process. Candidates who qualify for the ESE/IES Civil Engineer 2021 exam will be appointed to the post of Engineering Services Examination under various services/cadres. You must note that you should secure good marks in each stage as the marks of each ESE IES CE 2021 exam are used for the final merit list. The following are the stages of the ESE CE Selection process:

  • Stage I: ESE Civil Prelims Exam
  • Stage II: ESE CE Mains Exam
  • Stage III: ESE CE Personality Test/Interview

Apart from the three stages, there is also a medical test that you must pass. To qualify for each stage of the ESE CE 2021 exam you must be acquainted with the ESE IES Civil syllabus and exam pattern. The UPSC appoints candidates in Group A/B engineering services from four engineering disciplines, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil and Electronics, and Telecommunication. We have described in detail every stage of the selection process for the UPSC ESE Civil Engineer service. 

ESE IES Civil Selection Process for Prelims

This is the first stage of the selection process for the ESE/IES for the Civil Engineering Exam. There are two papers for the ESE CE exam both of which are objective multiple-choice questions in both papers. The total marks for the UPSC ESE CE exam is 500 marks with a duration of 5 Hours. Moreover, there is a penalty of ⅓ marks for an incorrect answer.

ESE IES Civil Selection for Mains Exam

Candidates qualifying for the ESE IES Civil Prelims Exam will appear for the 2nd stage of the selection process which is the Mains Exam. The ESE Mains Exam for CE is conventional/descriptive in nature. Moreover, all the questions will be asked in English Language only. Make sure that your handwriting is legible otherwise, there is a penalty of up to 5% of the total marks. 

Further, like the ESE CE Prelims Exam, the Maine Exam will also have two papers based on civil engineering questions only as per the ESE IES Civil Syllabus and exam pattern. The ESE CE Mains Paper is of 600 marks with a time duration of 6 Hours.

ESE CE Selection Process for Personality Test

All the candidates who will secure the cutoff marks in the ESE CE Prelims and Mains Exam will be appearing for the Personality Test or Interview comprising of 200 Marks. However, you need to fill up the DAF for ESE CE Personality Test before you appear for the Interview. In the DAF process, you will have to upload all the relevant documents such as educational certificates, caste certificate, etc.

Final Selection for ESE IES CE 2021 Exam

The final selection for the ESE CE 2021 exam is based on the marks obtained by you in the ESE Prelims, Mains, and Personality Test. This means that every stage of the ESE/IES exam holds a great deal of importance for you. Thus, you must prepare your best to secure a merit rank in the UPSC ESE 2021 Exam.

The final selection is, thus, made out of a total of 1300 marks (Stage I+II+III).

ESE Civil Engineering Medical Test

All the candidates who will be finally recommended by the UPSC for ESE 2021 Examination on the basis of the ESE 2021 Result will have to undergo a medical exam that will be conducted by the Railway board.
