GATE Civil Engineering examination 2024 registration process will be started soon. The exam will be conducted by IISc Bangalore. The GATE CE exam will be conducted on weekends of one first and second week of February 2024. Authorities will also release the exact exam dates for conducting the GATE exam. 

The GATE Civil Engineering examination is a National level examination for graduates in Engineering/ Technology. The conducting authority will release the official notification in the month of September 2023. Candidates are advised to check the GATE Civil Engineering exam details such as notification, selection process, eligibility criteria, exam pattern, and other information in the below sections, before applying for the examination.

GATE Civil Engineering Exam 2024 Overview

IISc Bangalore will be conducting the GATE Civil Engineering Exam 2024. It is a National level entrance exam conducted for candidates with aiming Civil Engineering as their major for post-graduate admissions in IITs, NITs, or foreign universities or to get jobs in PSUs. Each year after the commencement of the exam, a scorecard is released along with the result which remains valid for a maximum of three years for post-graduate admission and 1 to 2 years for PSUs' recruitment. 

GATE Civil Engineering exam is conducted once every year. Civil Engineering is a branch of GATE that leads to a professional engineering discipline that will deal with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment. It is considered to be the second-oldest engineering discipline after military engineering.

Important Dates of GATE Civil Engineering Exam 2024

The official notification brochure and exam schedule for all aspiring candidates will be released by IISc Bangalore. The upcoming GATE CE exam will be conducted in two shifts if the number of registered candidates is high. The GATE CE examination 2024 will be conducted in February 2024.

How to Apply Online for GATE Civil Engineering Exam?

Below stated are all the steps on how to apply online for the GATE CE exam:

  • Visit the GATE Online Application Processing System online, also known as GOAPS. 
  • The first step is registration.
  • Register for the GATE Civil Engineering exam using your full name, a valid e-mail address, mobile number, and a password of your choice.
  • Login to GOAPS using the enrollment ID provided and the chosen password.
  • Fill out the application form with all the required details.
  • Upload the scanned documents, photograph, and signature as per the specifications.

GATE Civil Engineering Selection Process

The GATE Civil Engineering selection process consists of an online computer-based examination. Candidates who appear for the examination after a successful attempt will receive a GATE score as their result. The GATE CE score remains valid for three years from the date of the announcement of results. Afterward, students have to go through the CCMT (Centralised counseling for M.Tech/ M.Plan) process for admissions. The weightage for admissions is provided below.

  • GATE CE score: 70% weightage
  • Test/ Interview and/ or academic record: 30% weightage

GATE Civil Engineering Admit Card

After successfully applying for the exam, candidates can download the hall ticket from the official website. Admit cards for GATE Civil Engineering 2024 exam will be downloaded from the official website or the GOAPS portal before the commencement of the exam. The release date of the admit card will be in January 2024. The admit card will carry the candidate’s information, exam date, exam center address, and shift timings on it.

How to Download GATE CE Admit Card?

Candidates who applied for the exam will be able to download the GATE Civil Engineering admit card using the following steps:

  • Visit the official website or the GOAPS portal.
  • Click on the 'GATE 2024 admit card' link.
  • Enter your login credentials.
  • Admit card is displayed on the screen. 

GATE Civil Engineering Eligibility Criteria

The GATE CE eligibility criteria are released by the officials along with the official brochure for the candidates. It is advised for the candidates to check the eligibility criteria before filling out the exam application form. The important criteria for exam eligibility are mentioned below.

GATE Civil Engineering Educational Qualification

Candidates pursuing the third or higher year of any UG degree are eligible to appear for the GATE CE 2024 examination, i.e. the eligibility criteria will be in the 10+2+3 pattern. Also, applicants who have completed any degree course in Technology/ Engineering/ Science/ Architecture/ Commerce/ Arts are eligible to apply.

Nationality for GATE Civil Engineering

There is no limitation on the nationality for the GATE CE 2024 examination. Candidates of any nationality can attempt the exam and choose their centers accordingly. Moreover, candidates who are living in Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Ethiopia, and United Arab Emirates (UAE) can also appear for the examination. Such candidates must have completed or must be in their final year or the pre-final year of their Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and Technology or equivalent.

GATE CE Age Limit

There is no upper age limit to appear for the GATE CE 2024 examination. Candidates can attempt the examination at any age. There is no maximum or minimum age limit to appear for the examination.

Exam Pattern of GATE Civil Engineering Exam

GATE CE exam pattern is released along with the detailed brochure. The GATE exam consists of three kinds of questions, Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions.

  • The GATE CE Exam will be 180 minutes long with 65 questions.
  • There are no negative markings for Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.
  • For MCQ-type questions, 1/3rd marks are deducted for 1 mark questions, and 2/3rd marks are deducted for 2 mark questions.
