Kindly go through the importance of the Spotting Error & Sentence Correction questions in Bank Exams.

  • You will get questions from these chapters in almost every Bank and Insurance exam.
  • You can expect 5-10 questions from these chapters in the Prelims as well as Mains exams.
  • You just need to learn some basic grammar concepts to handle these questions in the exam.
  • Go through the rules from any standard book and practice questions regularly.

Examples of Sentence Correction & New Pattern Error Spotting Questions

There are the following types of sentence correction questions. Read the following sentence and tell in which part there is an error:

Question 1.

Meetings were held with unions (1)/ to tackle indiscipline, (2)/ and with customers (3)/ to understand its needs. (4)/ No error (5)

Question 2.

They don’t hold with (1)/ letting children watch (2)/ as much TV as they want (3)/ No error (4)

This pattern is very common and is used extensively in the preliminary examination. There are usually five questions.

However, In the Mains exam, the pattern was changed last year. To help you understand what the questions looked like, I have changed the pattern of the above-mentioned two sentences and created questions that you would love to solve and answer. Please solve the following two questions.

Read the following sentences and tell which one of these is CORRECT:

Question 3.

A. Meetings were held with unions to tackle indiscipline, and with customers to understand their needs.
B. Meetings were held up with unions to tackle indiscipline, and with customers to understand their needs.
C. Meetings were held with unions to tackle indiscipline, and customers to understand their needs.
D. Meetings were held up with unions to tackle indiscipline, and with customers to understand its needs.
E. Meetings were held with unions to tackle indiscipline, and customers to understand their needs.

Question 4.

A. They don’t hold up with letting children watch as much TV as they want.
B. They don’t hold for letting children watch as much TV as they want.
C. They don’t hold with letting children watch as much TV as they want.
D. They don’t hold over letting children watch as much TV as they want.
E. They don’t hold out for letting children watch as much TV as they want.

If you see clearly, the only difference is that these two questions consume more time, energy, and focus. The knowledge, which is required to solve these two questions, is the same with which you solved the first two questions. Therefore, your complete focus should be on gaining knowledge of grammar and vocabulary. If you sit down to improve your knowledge sincerely, nothing can stop you. It is only you who can make a difference in your life.

Now, there are another two questions. Each sentence carries a different meaning. Out of five, four sentences are correct. Here, you need to find the sentence which is INCORRECT.

Read the following sentences. This time, all sentences are different. Tell which one of these is INCORRECT:

Question 5.

A. This book may not be reproduced in whole or in part in any form without written permission from the publishers.
B. The survey conducted reveals that there is a lack of adequate healthcare facilities even in urban areas.
C. One of his suggestions is that big corporations do give a fixed percentage of their earnings to charity.
D. The actual conduct of the test at each venue will be entrusted on the officer-in-charge who will be designated as the test conductor.
E. Although interlinking of rivers will help tackle drought, the government has not paid much attention to this project.

Question 6.

A. These goods have been damaged and as much should be declared unsuitable for sale.
B. On account of the rising costs, many people are finding it difficult to feed their families.
C. Plagued by huge losses, full-service airlines are struggling to cope up with the competition from low-cost airlines.
D. Unemployment is popularly believed to be an index that measures the economic condition of a nation.
E. Demand for diesel cars, which has been on the rise for the last few years, may dip as the government is increasing the price of the fuel, bringing it closer to that of petrol.

You can find the answers at the end of the post.

There is one more pattern that has theme-based questions. Out of five given sentences, four follow a certain thread that binds them together. But, there is one sentence that says something else. You need to find that sentence that is not in sync with the other four sentences. These questions are not difficult to solve, at all. The only pre-condition is that you should be in the habit of reading regularly. If you don’t understand anything the first time, read it again. Find what the common topic among most of them is. Then find the one that says something else. It is comparatively easy.
