Soda fire extinguisher uses sulphuric acid and sodium bicarbonate. It is very effective for usage in home.

Soda Fire Extinguisher

  • In soda-acid fire extinguishers, sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) and sulfuric acid (H2SO4) are both used.
  • It is the best fire extinguisher to use at home.

  • Sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) in water solution and sulfuric acid (H2SO4) in a separate bottle are both present in the fire extinguisher.
  • Sulphuric acid combines with sodium bicarbonate solution when the fire extinguisher’s knob is turned, resulting in the production of a small amount of carbon dioxide gas (CO2).
  • A non-combustible gas that does not support combustion is carbon dioxide.
  • Since it is heavier than air, it prevents the air from receiving oxygen, putting out the flames.
  • The response is manifested as:

2NaHCO3(aq) + H2SO4(aq) → Na2SO4(aq) + 2H2O(l) + 2CO2(g)

Types of Fire Extinguishers

Fire extinguishers come in a wide range depending on how they change any of the factors from the fire triangle that they manage, including:

  1. Foam and water: Removes oxygen and heat from the environment.
  2. Carbon Dioxide: Removes the oxygen element and heat.
  3. Dry Chemical: Stops the chemical process that is causing the fire.
  4. Wet Chemical: Eliminates the heating element and prevents the re-ignition of the fuel and oxygen.
  5. Clean Agent: Stops the fire’s chemical process.
  6. Dry Powder: Removes heat and separates fuel from oxygen.
  7. The hot element is removed by the water spray.
  8. Dry chemical cartridge operation: Stops the fire’s chemical process.
