Define the 4R principle in brief.

The 4R principle explains reduce, reuse, recycle, and recover. Waste is described as undesired and uses fewer resources and is considered a non-useful substance. Garbage can also refer to waste that is visible in our immediate environment. Garbage is primarily thought of as solid waste, which comprises waste from our homes, rubbish from workplaces like offices and schools, and waste from factories and industries.

(i) Reduce:
- Limit your energy usage and only do what is absolutely necessary.
- To save resources, keep the criteria to a minimum.
- Utilize nonrenewable natural resources responsibly.
Example: We should choose paper bags over polythene bags whenever possible.
(ii) Reuse:
- Replace any single-use items gradually with reusable ones, such as mugs and water bottles.
- Reuse the packing (pallets, drums, bubble wrap or packaging peanuts).
- Recycling shipping containers (boxes, inserts, cartons).
- Refill printer cartridges and reuse them.
Example: Reusing plastic bags allows for the creation of attractive items.
(iii) Recycle:
- All materials that can be recycled chemically should be used because they can be transformed back into new materials.
- Recycle as much paper, plastic, metal, and glass from everyday items as you can.
- Compost food scraps or use them as fertiliser for a nearby farm.
- Recycle all materials, even damaged clothing.
- If you can, recycle all of your electronics.
Example: Plastic materials.
(iv) Recovery: If any waste is left over after being reused and recycled, we can use it at our waste-to-energy plant to produce energy. This process is called recovery.
