History of Bank of Maharashtra:

• The Mahratta Chamber of Commerce (MCC) was established in Poona in 1934 by its founder A.R. Bhat.
• The MCC formed a sub-committee to work out the details of the establishment fo the Bank of Maharashtra.
• Sarvashri V.G.Kale, D.K.Sathe, N.G.Pawar, G.D.Apte and A.R.Bhat were the members of the committee.
• On 19 May 1935, the committee has a first meeting at the Kesari Mahratta Office.
• Besides the committee members, many prominent figures such as Babasaheb Kamat, S.R. Sardesai, N.N. Kshirsagar etc took part in the meeting.
• The Bank of Maharashtra was formally registered under the Indian Companies Act on 16 Sept 1935.
• The bank started operating on 08 Feb 1936 in Pune.
• Bank of Maharashtra opened the second branch in 1938 at Fort, Mumbai.
• The Bank is nationalized in 1969 by the GOI along with 13 other banks.

• On 17 Feb 2020, Treasury & International Banking Division of BoM won the ‘Team of the Year’ award in ET Now – Business Leader of the Year.
• On 10 Dec 2019, Min of Rural Development conferred the ‘Best Performing Bank for RSETIs for the year 2018-19’ award.
• On 16 Sept 2019, BoM received ‘Rajbhasha Kriti Puraskar’ for the implementation of Rajbhasha Hindi in Banking.

• In 1946, Bank of Maharashtra open first branch outside Maharashtra in Hubli, Karnataka.
• The bank deposits crossed 100 crore mark in 1974.
• Bank established its first RRB, i.e., Marathwada Grameena Bank on 26 Aug 1976.
• In 1985, then PM of India, Indira Gandhi inaugurated the 500th Branch at Nariman Point, Mumbai.
• The bank sponsored Thane Grameen bank in 1986.
• In 2010 the bank achieved 100% Core Banking Solutions. Also, the total business crossed the 1 lakh crore mark.
