SSC JE Selection Procedure 2021

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts Junior Engineer (JE) to select desirable candidates for Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, and Structural streams every year. Candidates must check the SSC JE selection process before starting their preparation. Understanding the selection process is the first and foremost process you need to do before preparation.

The SSC JE exam has two written exams (Paper I and Paper II). The marks of both Papers are included in the final merit list. Paper I is to eliminate the non-serious candidates and Paper II is a full technical Paper with good weightage. Check the detailed selection pattern of SSC JE below.

SSC JE Selection Process: Stages

The SSC JE exam consists of two Papers: Paper I (prelims), Paper-II (mains). All the candidates who had applied for the exam are going to appear for Paper I. The marks scored in both Papers are considered for the final merit list. Check SSC JE exam stages:

SSC JE Selection Process Paper I (Prelims)

The first Paper of the SSC JE is common for all the candidates. Through the exam, only serious candidates will be selected for Paper-II. The Paper I exam has three sections namely General Intelligence & Reasoning Ability, General Awareness, and General Engineering (Civil & Structure/ Electrical/ Mechanical). All the questions are objective. The time to complete the Paper is 120 minutes.

Selection Criteria for Paper I

  • Candidates will be selected for Paper-II based on their scores in the prelims exam.
  • The cut-off will be prepared based on the scores of candidates and the number of vacancies.
  • Each question is 1 mark.
  • There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for wrong answers.

SSC JE Selection Process Paper-II (Mains)

The candidates who clear the Paper I cut off are going to appear for SSC JE Paper-II. The exam is a conventional type exam with descriptive type questions. There is only a Technical subject. The questions will be from the stream you had selected for the exam. The exam will be 300 marks.

Important Points of Paper-II examination

  • The Descriptive Paper is an offline Paper. 
  • Candidates need to answer all the questions in 2 hours.
  • There is no negative marking in Paper-II.
  • Candidates are allowed to bring the Log table, Slide-rule, Calculator, and Stream table.

SSC JE Document Verification

Candidates who clear the mains exam are called for document verification. The candidates will have to furnish all the required documents asked by the commission. The documents are required to verify all the details entered by candidates in the application form. The list of documents asked by the SSC to present for SSC JE document verification is given below. 

  • 10th class certificate and mark sheet
  • 12th class certificate and mark sheet
  • Graduation final mark sheet
  • Graduation certificate
  • Transfer certificate
  • Category certificate (if applicable)
  • PwD certificate (if applicable), etc.

SSC JE Medical Examination

To make sure the candidate is mentally and physically fit to carry out the job properly, the commission will conduct the medical examination for all the candidates.

SSC JE Resolution of Tie Cases

For tie cases, the commission will resolve by applying given situations one after the other till the tie case resolves.

  • Marks in Paper 2,
  • Marks in Paper 1,
  • Senior as per the date of birth,
  • Alphabetical arrangement of the first name.
