How to Prepare Letter Writing for IBPS PO Mains?

The aim of letter writing is to examine how well the applicants are able to communicate themselves with the others to whom the letter is addressed. To excel in this section you should know the types of letters asked in previous year papers.

Letters can be broadly classified into Formal and Personal (or Informal) letters. Each type of letter has got a fixed format which has to be followed in any exam.

Formal Letters:

These letters are usually written in cases of professional relationships, where you need to address any government/ bank/ academic/ other field-related official or any other dignitary.

Informal or Personal Letter:

These kinds of letters are usually sent to your friends, family or relatives etc.

 How to Prepare Essay Writing for IBPS PO Mains?

Essay Writing is all about how well you present your thoughts on a particular topic in a well-structured manner. It requires imagination as well as a good writing skill then only you will be able to deliver a good essay. Only imagining thoughts is not sufficient as you should be able to put those in words also. Likewise, just good writing skills are not good if you are not able to think of innovative and relevant points for the given essay topic.

1) Daily Reading Habit

  • Try to read the newspaper editorials as well as the daily news.
  • It will help you to gather ideas for the essay to strengthen your General Awareness. So, make a habit of reading newspapers regularly.
  • Build the habit to write the articles that you read in your own words. U can start with an article of around 100-200 words.
  • It will be much better if you practice online. For instance, you can practice typing on your desktop/laptop.
  • You can increase your vocabulary content by going through the most commonly used words in newspapers. Here is a link for the same.

2) Use of Dictionary

  • Try to use a dictionary whenever you come across a new word, or you have any query about the usage of the given word.
  • This will help you to get familiar with the word usage in sentences in a much better way and will also help you strengthen your vocabulary.

3) Try writing at least one article daily.

  • You can pick up any current topic from the newspaper or a trending topic and try to write down an essay/ article on it in your own words.

While writing an essay, everyone should take care of the following things :

  • Read instructions carefully and take care of the word limit, before you start writing.
  • Attempt the topic that you know very well, and you have sufficient points to write. Go for the topic you are well aware of. 
  • Try dividing the essay into at least 2-3 paragraphs. 
    (a) In the first paragraph introduce the topic.
    (b) Divide the essay body into a minimum of 2 paragraphs. 
    (c) Conclude in the last paragraph.
  • Do not overwrite essays, write only valid points, and be precise.
