If the Area Calculated From the Plan Plotted with Measurements

If the area calculated from the plan plotted with measurements by an erroneous chain, the accurate area of the plan is (Given the measured area is 1 hectare).

  1. Correct Area = Length of chain used/Nominal chain length
  2. Correct Area = Nominal chain length/Length of chain used
  3. Correct Area  = (Nominal chain length/Length of chain used)2
  4. Correct Area  = ( Length of chain used/Nominal chain length)2

Answer: Option D. Correct Area  = ( Length of chain used/Nominal chain length)2

If the area calculated from the plan plotted with measurements by an erroneous chain, the accurate area of the plan is-

Correct Area = ( Length of chain used/Nominal chain length)2

Solution

The length of a line will be measured incorrectly if a chain is used whose length is not equal to the true length or designated length. To correct it, suitable corrections have to be applied.

When the length of the chain used is too long compared to the true length

  • Error will be negative
  • Correction will be positive

When the length of the chain used is too short compared to the true length

  • Error will be positive
  • Correction will be negative

Correction to a measured Length-

Corrected length of the line = (Length of chain used/Nominal chain length)✖ Measured length

If the area calculated from the plan plotted with measurements by an erroneous chain, the accurate area of the plan is-

Corrected Area = (Length of chain used/Nominal chain length)2 ✖ Measured area
