Age Limit Criteria

There are no age limit criteria set to be eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor. Mаny students сhооse this рrоfessiоn аfter getting рriоr exрerienсe, whiсh рrоves tо be benefiсiаl in getting the jоb. Therefore, UGC/CSIR has not set any age limit for lectureship posts.

Competitive Exams Required to Become a Professor

To pursue your career as an Assistant Professor, you must appear for the below mentioned competitive exams -

1. NET (National Eligibility Test)

The NET exam which is commonly known as UGC NET is a competitive exam that is conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency) to select candidates for awarding the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and to determine the eligibility for Lecturer. To apply for this exam, you must have a post-graduate degree with at least 55% marks secured from a recognized university, to be eligible for this exam. Once you clear the exam and receive the UGC NET Certificate, you can apply for the profile of Assistant Professor in reputed Indian colleges and universities across the country.

2. GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering)

The Graduate Aptitude Test is an All-India competitive entrance exam that is conducted by the GATE Committee, which comprises faculty members from different institutes like IISc, Bangalore, and the seven Indian Institute of Technology (IIT's).

Candidates can use the GATE score to pursue a Ph.D. degree and, after publishing your research papers as a Ph.D. thesis you can apply for the post of professor/lecturer post in IITs or NITs.

3. SLET (State Level Eligibility Test)

SLET is a state-level examination that is also conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to select the enthusiastic candidates interstate to be eligible for Assistant Professor. After clearing the SLET exam, you will be eligible to apply and work with state-level colleges and universities.

4. CSIR NET

CSIR NET is a national level exam which is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) to select candidates for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor for Science subjects only. CSIR UGC NET stands for Council of Scientific and Industrial Research University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (CSIR UGC NET).
