The 66th edition of the Filmfare Awards has been announced. The award function took place at Goregaon Filmcity, Mumbai. The ceremony concluded with conferring Best Actor award posthumously to Irrfan Khan for Angrezi Medium movie, who died due to cancer for Angrezi Medium movie.
Anubhav Sinha's 'Thappad' recorded the most wins with seven awards, followed by 'Gulabo Sitabo', winning six, emerging as big winners of Filmfare Awards 2021.
About Filmfare Awards
- Filmfare Award ceremony is one of the most prestigious film events in India.
- It was introduced in 1954 with 'Gregory Peck' as the guest of Honour
- Its original name was 'The Clares', named after The Times of India critic Clare Mendonca.
- First award function of Filmfare took place on 21 March in Metro Theatre, Mumbai with only 5 categories: Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Music Director.

- Best Film: Do Bigha Zameen
- Best Director: Bimal Roy for 'Do Bigha Zameen'
- Best Actor (Male): Dilip Kumar for 'Daag'

- Best Music Director: Naushad Ali for Baiju Bawra
- The award was since then distributed every year. However, it was not awarded in 1986 and 1987 due to security reasons.
- Filmfare started honouring excellence in South industries after few years of its emergence.
- Currently, apart from the main ceremony, Filmfare is also honoured in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam industries and also in Bengali, Marathi and Punjabi film industries as well.
